Sen Carl Levin (D-MI): Chevy Volt (that hasn't sold a single unit, fills up on coal and the feds hav

The farce is afoot. Politicians are coming out of the woodwork touting the Chevy Volt as a savior of humanity. Included in the props is the Volt - without having sold a single unit - being declared car of the year by Motor Trend, which in reality was more about marketing than technology. Right after that, the Volt was named "green car of the year" even though inn reality it fills up on coal. If it were such a revolutionary vehicle, consumers would be pining to get one and the government wouldn't need to pay people $7,500 to buy one. Here's the angriest mayor in America touting the Volt:
And from The Detroit News: Levin: Volt proves 'doubters' wrong
Sen. Carl Levin, D-Detroit, a future Chevrolet Volt owner, said General Motors Co. has answered its critics with the launch of its extended range plug-in hybrid.

GM launched the Volt — a vehicle that the EPA says goes 35 miles on a single charge — at a ceremony at the company's Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant today.

What happened to the Volt getting 230 MPG?
The extended-range electric vehicle has a gas engine that runs the Volt when the battery is depleted.

Levin and members of Congress couldn't attend because of action this week. But Levin wrote a letter to GM CEO Dan Akerson — that hasn't been made public — praising the Volt.

"We've always known there would be doubters. Congratulations on answering them so well," Levin wrote. "Today is a great moment in automotive history."

..."With the delivery of the first Chevrolet Volt from the assembly line, GM has demonstrated that the domestic auto industry is at the forefront of innovation," he said.

Levin said the Volt "is testament to the notion that industry and government can work in partnership to advance the complimentary goals of strengthening our industrial economy and protecting our environment."
Only in government world is the loss of $59 billion taxpayer dollars to produce a car very few will buy considered a success. taxpayers will lose at least $59 Billion (yes - with a capital 'B'), down the toilet and into the hands of mostly the UAW. Recently, I posted on this:

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs reiterated that the administration believes it will at least obtain $36.1 billion of the $49.5 billion GM bailout — the amount President Barack Obama agreed to invest in GM.
Even if that holds, which it won't, it's still a loss of about $13 billion. But there's even more to it. As I posted earlier this month: Detroit News spews Obama propoganda: Feds to recoup $36 billion in bailout money, fail to mention GM receiving $45 billion tax furlough. The tax exemption hasn't been reported in the establishment MSM. It will cost taxpayers $45.4 billion over the next several year. Add that to at least $13.4 billion that taxpayers guaranteed to lose, and we have a minimum loss of $59 Billion. Some 'proof' for the doubters...
