All but eight of the injured and all of the fatalities in Alexandria were Christians, according to Egypt's Ministry of Health. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which was being described as a suicide bombing. The explosion, which appeared designed to inflict maximum civilian casualties, bore the hallmark of Al Qaeda militants.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak accused unnamed foreign elements of being behind the attack.

'This act of terrorism shook the country's conscience, shocked our feelings and hurt the hearts of Muslim and Coptic Egyptians,' he said in an emergency address to the nation. 'The blood of their martyrs in the land of Alexandria mixed to tell us all that all Egypt is the target and that blind terrorism does not differentiate between a Copt and a Muslim.'

The attack in the ancient Mediterranean coastal city was the latest in a wave of violence against once-resilient Christian communities in the Muslim world, some of which date back to antiquity.

Christmas Eve assaults by Muslim extremists killed dozens of Christians in the Nigerian cities of Jos and Maiduguri. And Iraq's Christians have endured a relentless campaign of attacks and intimidation by the local branch of Al Qaeda.

An Oct. 31 siege on a Baghdad church that killed at least 58 parishioners and staff members sparked a new Christian exodus from the Iraqi capital and the northern city of Mosul. About 1,000 families sought refuge in Iraq's semiautonomous Kurdish enclave afterward, according to the United Nations. Further threats of violence by Islamic militants caused many Christians in Iraq to tone down Christmas celebrations, and attacks Thursday against 10 Christian targets left an elderly couple dead.

Officials across the Middle East, including the ultraconservative Muslim governments of Iran and Saudi Arabia, condemned Saturday's attack, which was widely covered in television news broadcasts. In an annual New Year's speech at the Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI urged the faithful to stave off despair over such violence, but also demanded that governments do more to protect religious minorities.

'In front of the current threatening tensions, in front of especially the discrimination tyranny and religious intolerance, that today hit in particular the Christians, once again I deliver the pressing invite to not cave in to the depression and resignation,' Benedict said, adding that officials' 'words are not enough' in confronting religious intolerance.

'There must be a concrete and constant effort from leaders of nations,' he said.

Christians are under assault throughout the Middle East and the administration refuses to identify the aims of the attack in Alexandria: to slaughter as many Christians as possible. Hamas terrorists, with funds from Saudi Arabia, plotted a missile attack on a soccer game at Jerusalem’s Teddy Stadium, Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) officials disclosed Sunday.

Officials said they arrested two Jerusalem Arabs who carried out surveillance from a hill overlooking the stadium in order to find the best place to launch rocket attacks on the packed stadium, home of the Beitar soccer team.

The plot began following Israel’s counterterrorist Operation Cast Lead operation two years ago. The terrorists were identified as Muslim Brotherhood members Moussa Hamda Matzour and Bassam Omri, who bought several revolvers and attempted to buy weapons and ammunition. Officials also arrested relatives of Matzour who were involved in the purchase of the guns.

Security officials said Matzour travelled to Saudi Arabia several times to meet Muslim Brotherhood members. At one meeting, a Saudi official gave him money to buy weapons in return for gathering intelligence information on several locations in Jerusalem.

The investigation also revealed Hamas involvement on the Temple Mount, including funding of maintenance work, bringing school children to the site and subsidizing other activities. Palestinian Authority leaders have joined Arab world attempts over the past several years to claim that the holy site, where the First and Second Temples stood, have no connection with Judaism.

The Temple Mount is the holiest site in the Jewish world.

Usually, special front-row parking is reserved for the handicapped or the elderly. Not in Orlando, Florida. There, hybrid vehicle owners are starting to get the same privileges.

An increasing number of Orlando buildings and venues are instituting front-row hybrid-only parking spaces in an attempt to earn “green” building status and reward car owners considered environmentally friendly. Places like the University of Central Florida, Ikea in South Orlando, and the Amway Center are just a few who are giving hybrid’s preferential treatment.

For now, the hybrid-only spots aren’t policed like a handicapped parking spot. But defenders are hoping the public will shame people into compliance.

“Right now this is a promotional thing, so I don‘t think we’re seeing enforcement,” Jon Ippel, the city of Orlando’s sustainability manager, told the Orlando Sentinel. “It’s more peer pressure. Hopefully the evil eyes violators get will force them to comply.“ He went on to call the spots ”sustainable spaces.”

A spokeswoman for the city of Orlando agreed. “There are the social-pressure aspects of it that should restrict it for those people it’s reserved for,” Cassandra Lafser told the Sentinel. She also included “green” parking in the same category as special spots for pregnant women.

“We reserve spaces for guests who have premium seating in the arena, and felt that it was important to also reserve spaces for those guests who are driving hybrid vehicles and/or carpooling to events, to recognize them for doing their part to be environmentally aware,” said UCF Arena Marketing Director Melissa Schaaff.

The hybrid-only parking phenomenon has been gaining traction in recent years. Residents have noticed them popping up at a Chicago Home Depot, a Nevada grocery store, and a North Carolina hotel. Enthusiasts and store owners can even purchase hybrid-only parking signs on Amazon.com.

Not everyone around the country approves, however. Some municipalities are even getting heat for the practice. Fort Collins, CO residents recently got the city to reverse its decision to implement the hybrid-only slots after many complained that the signs amounted to the city telling them what to drive.

Similarly, in Orlando some people are “green” with envy. Especially considering hybrids are generally more expensive than a regular car.

“I have heard that some people didn‘t like it because they question whether it’s fair,” Alexa Stone, program manager for ecoPreserve LLC, an Orlando consulting firm, told the Sentinel. “They think hybrids are expensive and elitist.”

And they are. The Nissan Leaf, for example, sells for around $32,000. That price goes down once taxpayers kick in $7,500 in federal tax subsidies. In contrast, one could purchase a small sedan such as the Hyundai Elantra for around $18,000.

As Kermit once said, “It’s not easy being green.” But in Orlando, it does have its perks.

The Metro Council voted to approve an ordinance to allow environmentally friendly cars owners to park free in downtown Nashville. The vote happened on the same day as one of the most anticipated “green” cars rolled out in Tennessee.

Hybrid car owners will have to pay a one-time $10 fee, according to the ordinance.”I never have to go to the gas station again,” said Ashley Heeren. [...]

The mayor signed an executive order in 2008 to make Nashville a “greener place,” and one proposal to do that is to offer those who drive environmentally friendly cars free downtown parking at meters.

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Western visitors to Zimbabwe are looking for zeros. They’re snapping up old, defunct Zimbabwe bank notes, most notably the one hundred trillion Zimbabwe dollar bill, as an economic souvenir.

The one hundred trillion Zimbabwe dollar bill, which at 100 followed by 12 zeros is the highest denomination, now sells for $5, depending on its condition. That bill and others — among them millions, billions and trillions, were abandoned nearly two years ago, when the American dollar became legal tender in the hopes of killing off the record inflation that caused all those zeros.

“I had to have one,” said Janice Waas on a visit to the northwestern resort town of Victoria Falls. “The numbers are mind bending.” She got her so-called “Zimdollar” in pristine condition, from a street vendor who usually sells African carvings.

“It’s perfect if you like puzzles, calculus and things like Rubik’s Cube,” she said.

Janice’s husband Thomas Waas, a physicist and engineer from Germany, said if the population of the world is 7 billion people, every single person could be a given thousands of old Zimbabwe dollars from this single 100 trillion note.

Janice Waas said Westerners were buying the bills for their curiosity value. An Australian wanted one to display in his local bar back home.

Street vendors said visitors had been so intrigued by the Zimbabwe bills that they were now running out of them, two years after a power sharing deal between longtime ruler President Robert Mugabe and the former opposition leader, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, made the old currency redundant.

Visitors from countries familiar with hyperinflation, such as the Congo and other impoverished states in the region and in South America, showed less interest in the highly marked bills. Instead, most bought curios and artifacts, said vendor Lloyd Phiri, speaking on his mobile phone in Victoria Falls.

At the height of Zimbabwe‘s economic meltdown in 2008 when Zimbabwe’s world record inflation was running into the billions in percent annually and prices were climbing each hour, the 100 trillion bill scarcely bought a cart of groceries.

Teachers reported the printing of bank notes from millions to billions and then trillions skewed their pupils’ sense of numeracy, making them fail to grasp the realities of numbers.

On one geography field trip, students scoffed at being told granite rocks swept over Zimbabwe by ancient glaciers were 700 million years old. That time frame seemed insignificant.

Back then in 2008, 700 million Zimbabwe dollars bought a loaf of bread.

Scientists and physicists estimate the number of atoms in the universe at 10 to the power of 80 — 10 followed by 80 zeros.

During the worst of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown and hyperinflation, Zimbabwe’s highest money denominations were logged at 10 to the power of 25 — 10 followed by 25 zeros — or the equivalent of nearly one third of the number of atoms estimated in the universe.

The central bank then sliced off several zeros, but large transactions were still calculated in quadrillions (15 zeros) and quintillions (18 zeros) until the demise of the local currency.

If you are delayed at an airport during your Zimbabwe trip, play the numbers game, advises Waas, the physicist.

He posed this challenge.

“If the pyramids in Egypt are 5,000 years old, there are 155 billion seconds in 5,000 years and 1,000 billion make a trillion. So how many years are there in 100 trillion seconds?” he said.

Waas said he was still waiting for the correct answer from friends and fellow visitors in Zimbabwe.

The blizzard hit New York a week ago tonight when it ended over 20 inches of snow was on the ground much of it languished for days. Some said it was the worst snow removal in New York City in decades and blame was thrust toward Mayor Bloomberg who record of arrogance and disdain for the city residents make him an easy target. Keep in mind last year a larger snow storm (21 inches) saw the streets cleared in 24 hours. But last year's storm did not include unions sabotaging the cleanup effort.

Selfish Sanitation Department bosses from the snow-slammed outer boroughs ordeed their drivers to snarl the blizzard cleanup to protest budget cuts -- a disastrous move that turned streets into a minefield for emergency-services vehicles,Miles of roads stretching from as north as Whitestone, Queens, to the south shore of Staten Island still remained treacherously unplowed last night because of the shameless job action, several sources and a city lawmaker said, which was over a raft of demotions, attrition and budget cuts.

"They sent a message to the rest of the city that these particular labor issues are more important," said City Councilman Dan Halloran (R-Queens), who was visited yesterday by a group of guilt-ridden sanitation workers who confessed the shameless plot. The Union leaders deny the claim, and the arrogant Mayor is investigating the charges even though he does not believe it is true. But a NYC action at the worst possible time is very believable, two of the last three transit strikes happened during the Christmas rush time. And with each passing day new information is being released pointing toward a Union Slowdown working to paralyze the big apple during the early part of last week.

For example, according to Sanitation department records, between 660 and 720 Sanitation workers called in sick for the cleanup of last week's blizzard, usually that number his half that amount.Quite the coincidence. And per another report by the NY Post a group of on-duty Sanitation supervisors spent Monday night getting plowed when they were supposed to be plowing.

Plow trucks sit idle on Monday, shortly after the storm let up, in Kensington, Brooklyn. Witnesses say four Sanitation supervisors spent the night drinking in their official sedan a few blocks away. The four remained in the idling sedan until morning -- then told their bosses they could do nothing about the blizzard because they had run out of gas, one witness said.



'They just sat in their car all night with the heat running,' the witness said.



Customers who saw the group buying beer at the Ocean Mini Mart at 3917 18th Ave. in Kensington shouted at the workers.'They were saying, 'How can you do this? You should be outside!' ' a witness told The Post.But the Sanitation team was unmoved.'One guy said, 'Don't worry about it. We know what we're doing,' ' the witness recalled.



A block from the deli, six riders remained on the snow-stalled bus all night.The supervisors had shown up at the deli near Ocean Parkway at 8 p.m. when a smiling, uniformed Sanitation honcho bought a six-pack of Heineken Light, the witnesses said. About 30 minutes later, another worker from the group bought a six-pack of Corona Light.

In NYC indeed across the country, progressive government officials have allowed big labor to hold taxpayers hostage in order to get their way at the bargaining table, if these charges are indeed true the unions, may have contributed to the deaths of two innocent people.

Queens woman who was having trouble breathing and a baby born in a apartment building lobby reportedly died after emergency crews had difficulty reaching them due to snow-covered streets.



The 75-year-old woman's daughter and neighbors called 911 for 20 minutes on Monday, according to the NY Daily News. After finally getting through, they allegedly waited three hours for EMS to arrive at their home in Corona. The woman had died.Meanwhile, a baby born inside a lobby in Crown Heights on Monday to a 22-year-old woman died after a 911 call was made nine hours earlier.

Along with the original claims made to Councilman Dan Halloran, the absences that are twice the average and anecdotal stories such as the one above give further credence to the charge of union sabotage. Only this was not only union sabotage, it was also manslaughter. Causing the deaths of at least two and jeopardizing the health and safety of millions of of innocent New Yorkers in order to strong-arm the city into avoiding necessary cuts is reprehensible, and if true it should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Besides throwing those responsible for the slowdown into jail, if these charges can be proved the Sanitation Workers Union should be certified.

Hey, boys and girls! Notice how we keep finding out more and more about the corruption of the Ground Zero mosque project and its chief sponsors? Well, now we discover that the whole thing received a lot of secret help from NY City's mayor and government to ensure it was approved even though--on purely legal and financial grounds--that was a questionable decision.



The mayor's office says that the project received only normal help. Wow, I'll bet a lot of New York developers would be amazed at that statement. But let's never forget that this project, budgeted at far over $100 million, has no serious money raised!



I have a totally different view on this issue that is drenched with irony. The first irony is that the mayor's office and other city agencies pushed for a project that would never otherwise have been approved (given zoning issues, the bad record of the promoters, the fact that they didn't even own the property, etc).



This brought the second irony: the city government's leaning over double-backwards to show extra-special privileges for an Islamic institution--supposedly to fight "Islamophobia" and to prove how "tolerant" they are--raised antagonisms and set off a huge national controversy that otherwise never would have happened!



How can people keep debating this issue without noting that whether they are for or against it the odds of this mosque/community center ever being built is low? Again, even if no voice had ever been raised against this community center/mosque plan, it is never going to exist. And if people had not been so blinded by fear of being thought "Islamophobic" that they would ignore ever other completely non-political factor involved, no one would ever have heard of the Ground Zero Mosque at all.



By the way, while we are on the subject of New York, that state just released its hate crimes report for 2009 (hey, it's a government so it isn't very efficient). They found 683 such events including 251 hate crimes against Jews; 11 against Muslims. But, of course, reportedly 242 mosques have already been built in New York state without a single significant protest against any of them. So much for rampant "Islamophobia."





Back to corruption and lying. We discover two more new examples of it on the part of J Street.



First, veteran anti-Israel lobbyist (pretending to be a pro-Israel lobbyist) Jeremy Ben-Ami founded a consulting firm that received tens of thousands of dollars of J Street money. Ben-Ami claims he did not benefit financially but merely chose the best-qualified company.



Since he and his colleagues have already lied about so much I suspect there is more to discover here.



J Street is a truly amazing phenomenon. The smallest amount of serious research reveals that it is an anti-Israel organization; it has lied about funding; it has undertaken no pro-Israel actions virtually ever; its leader was an anti-Israel lobbyist, and yet since the mass media and even much of the Jewish media don’t publish this material there are many people totally unaware of this information.



Second, J Street has opened an office in Israel headed by someone named Drew Cohen. But in the age of the Internet an intrepid researcher has dug out his record which includes Cohen:



--Explaining that he can’t be comfortable unless he’s “with people who I am certain do not espouse Zionism or any form of oppression.”



--Describing Israel’s handling of the Gaza flotilla confrontation as “a heinous brutality” and saying that Gaza is only a “mythic threat” to Israel.



--Calling Operation Cast Lead (remember that one? How Israel defended itself when that "mythic threat" started firing hundreds of mortar shells and rockets at its civilians?) as an “unjust and even criminal” act.



Truly the right man to head J Street’s Jerusalem office! How many J Street supporters will ever hear about these things? For full documentation and also here's more:



But guess what! In a recent speech in Pittsburgh, when someone asked Ben-Ami about Drew Cohen, the anti-Israel activist claimed that Cohen was just an intern. Funny, a few hours earlier J Street had issued a press release trumpeting what a great guy he is and how he is the head of J Street's new Israel office. (Perhaps the office should be located in the Gaza Strip so that Drew doesn't have to come into contact with those evil Zionists.)



When will people who still support this group wake up and understand (as almost all members of Congress already do) that it is NOT a dovish, constructively critical group led by friends of Israel but a front group whose mission is to destroy American Jewish support for Israel?

Just days after 9/11, President George W. Bush was filmed golfing. He spoke briefly with the press about Israeli security and ousting terrorists, then infamously said, “Now watch this drive.” Since then, progressive critics railed on President Bush for his golf habit until he gave up the game for the remainder of his presidency in 2003, saying:

“I don’t want to some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander-in-chief playing golf… And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.”

On Thursday, President Obama played his 56th (or maybe 57th) round of golf since becoming President. In his two years of golf over two terms, President Bush played 32 times. That has not only drawn criticism from political reporters and enemies, but also from people in the golf world.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq released a statement two weeks ago targeting the Alexandria Coptic Christian Saints Church. The order to “bomb churches during the Christmas holiday” was posted online.

21 Christians were murdered when a car bomb exploded as they were leaving New Year’s Mass.

Al-Qaeda affiliate, the Islamic State of Iraq, had ordered its militants to attack Egypt’s Coptic Christians two weeks before a Church was bombed in Alexandria killing 21 people, according to a statement posted on the group’s website.

The website, named the Network of Islamic Glory, carried a statement calling militants to “wake up” and prepare for “bombing churches during Christmas celebrations.”

“Peace be upon those who follow guidance…We did not forget your heinous action in Egypt and your kidnapping of those Muslim women who chose to discard the illusion of what you call Christianity,” the group said, addressing what it called “the Crusader West.”

“Therefore, I call upon myself and upon every Muslim jealous of the dignity of his sisters to bomb churches during Christmas celebrations, meaning at the time when churches are crowded,” the statement added.

The group mentioned names of many churches to be targeted, including the Coptic Christian Saints Church in Alexandria, which was bombed on Saturday.

Libs Anthony Weiner and Debbie Wasserman Schultz were absolutely helpless.

It would have been even better if liberal host Harry Smith would have quit interrupting Michele Bachmann as she pummeled the two most obnoxious and vocal democrats in the US House.



Remember tea partiers: Your work is not done until these two horrid leftists are removed from office.

Wasserman-Schultz has a lot of nerve blaming Bush for the trillion dollar Obama deficit. What an awful woman.

Rep.-elect Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) appeared on “Face the Nation” Sunday with Tea Party favorite Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), Chief Deputy Whip Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) and Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.).

Kelly, a car dealer, said he was coming to Washington with the perspective of the private sector where it’s “not impressive” to run a business in the red.

“I’m looking to really go to work and work very hard,” Kelly said. “I’ve worked hard all my life, and I’ve done it with my own money. I’ve had my own skin in the game. So I’m, kind of, interested in seeing when you get into a situation where, really, it’s not your money. You can spend anything you want. Just throw the charge card out. In fact, keep raising the debt ceiling as much as you want because you don’t have to worry about paying it back.”

Wasserman Schultz said “what remains to be seen is whether members like Mike Kelly are going to be able to turn their essentially campaign rhetoric into some kind of reality.”

“Because with all due respect to his response, there isn’t any ‘there’ there,” she said. “I mean, we haven’t heard any concrete proposals. Anthony is absolutely right. We’ve only heard attacks on what they don’t like.”

Weiner said “Republicans have come in saying that they’re going to not raise the debt ceiling and they’re going to allow the full faith and credit of the American people to go down the tubes.”

“It’s their ship to run now,” the liberal congressman continued. “This is an adult game now.”

Kelly was asked about the looming debt ceiling vote and the prospect of a government shutdown.

“Speaking as an adult who has always paid his own way, I do understand what happens,” he said. “And raising the debt ceiling to me is absolutely irresponsible. We’ve been spending money for so long that we don’t have and keep saying, well, it’s OK; we’ll just raise taxes; we’ll find it somewhere.

“Tax revenue comes from people who are working, people who are profitable. It does not come from raising tax rates,” Kelly added.

Much hyped coal-powered 'Car of the Year' Chevy Volts sells whopping 350 units in 2010, while SUV sales skyrocket: "The establishment media is finally getting it that consumers aren't going to be buying electric cars anytime soon: Predictable: Despite green car hype, SUV sales led auto industry rebound in 2010.

Even the Washington Post had to begrudgingly report the facts: SUVs lead U.S. auto sales growth despite efforts to improve fuel efficiency. Case in point is the Chevy Volt, hailed by liberals as the future of automobiles. In a marketing gimmick the Volt - a car that at the time hadn't sold a single unit, is powered by coal and which the government has to pay you $7,500 to buy - was named the Motor Trend 'Car of the Year.' And the Green Car of the Year. And the Detroit Free Press Car of the Year. That very 'Car of the Year' for 2010 has sold a whopping 350 units in that year. Wow! 350 units! We're saved! And that's the upper limit. The Nissan Leaf did even better - 10 units. TEN. But don't worry because next year sales will double! Sales so far have been microscopic, and they're likely to stay that way for some time because of limited supplies. GM sold between 250 and 350 Chevy Volts this month and Nissan's sales totaled less than 10 Leaf sedans in the past two weeks. Production for both is slowly ramping up.

It will be well into 2012 before both the Volt and Leaf are available nationwide. And if you're interested in buying one, you'll need to get behind the 50,000 people already on waiting lists.

The 2010 'Car of the Year' not available until 2012? That is so totally appropriate since the car was pushed by Obama who himself got a Nobel Peace Prize for doing... nothing!

Florida just went through its coldest December ever breaking records set in 1935.

The Sunshine State lost $273 million from the December freezes alone — including nearly 9,000 acres of crops.

CBS Miami reported:

If you thought it was especially cold in December, it’s not just your imagination. The facts prove it, according to the National Weather Service, which announced Saturday that December 2010 set a record as the coldest December ever in Ft. Lauderdale. Miami, and Key West.

Forecasters say December was also the second coldest month ever in Key West.

A series of arctic cold fronts put South Florida into the deep freeze, with frost on the ground, crops damaged, and people forced to bundle up to face wind chills in the 20′s. While temperatures were unusually chilly as far south as Key West, where a one day overnight low record was set, Ft. Lauderdale, experienced the lowest low temperatures, giving them the nod for the record. However, even Miami and warmer Key West were still cold as records go.

Of course, a record low in Florida is not the same as a record low in the frozen Northeast. According to the weather service, the mean monthly average for Ft. Lauderdale in December was 60.4 degrees. That breaks the previous record of 62.2 degrees set in December 1935.

The Iranian regime announced today that military forces have shot down several foreign spy planes.

Fars News reported:

Iranian military forces have shot down several spy planes of foreign forces, a senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced on Sunday, adding that two of these planes have been shot down over the Persian Gulf.

Commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh told “Payam Engelab” (Message of the Revolution), an internal publication of the IRGC, that western forces in the region have made limited aggressions against Iran, and “we have, thus far, shot down a large number of their highly advanced spy planes”.

“Two of these planes have been shot down in the Persian Gulf,” Gen. Hajizadeh continued.

The commander said that Iran has shot down many foreign planes, but did not reveal it to the media, “and this is the first time that we reveal this news”.

He declined to mention the exact date and location of the development.
