Climate Change Group Apologizes for Violent Video
by LA Holmes | October 02, 2010
Emaciated polar bears clutching to melting icebergs. Smokestacks fading to reveal wind turbines and clear air. These are the kinds of images you typically see in a TV spot for climate change awareness or clean energy use.
But exploding children?
That's precisely what's depicted in a new ad released Friday by British clean energy group 10:10, ironically titled "No Pressure."
Though the ad is no longer posted on 10:10′s website, the group said it would not attempt to "censor or remove" copies that exist elsewhere online. ( hurry and view the youtube link above- download it for the future)
"Unfortunately in this instance we missed the mark," the mea culpa continued. "Oh well, we live and learn."

And behind door number 1……. what they aren’t saying
It was on the news and gone so fast no one thought to ask any questions, well no one except one intrepid reporter.
In a case where PC strikes again Ms Adelman found a teenager making bombs outside a mosque has not been charged but a child that placed a ham sandwich on a table next to a Muslim child is being charged for hate crimes.
Portland, Maine: DA's Office Not Told of Teenager's Bomb
by Gadi Adelman
October 1, 2010
PORTLAND, ME (NEWS CENTER) — Police say there were no injuries or damage caused by a chemical bomb that went off in a parking lot near the Islamic Society of Portland.
The bomb went off in the lot between the Islamic Society and Back Bay Grill around 8:00 PM Tuesday night. Portland Police say Islamic elders came forward to tell them that a 13 year old from the Society was experimenting and was responsible for the bomb. Another bomb was also found undetonated.
Police say it's unclear if charges will be filed against the teenager.
Friday morning I spoke to the head of the Juvenile Justice Division, Prosecution Team Leader, Assistant District Attorney, Christine Thibeault.
I asked Asst. D.A. Thibeault what was happening with the case of the bomb that went off outside the Islamic Society of Portland. Her answer was "what bomb?" My reaction, of course, was to repeat the question and her answer was "I have not even heard about it." This incident took place on Tuesday September 21 and I spoke with the D.A.'s office on Friday the 24th, the Detective in charge is off until Monday the 27th and the D.A. was still unaware of it until my telephone call.
Now here's where I am a bit lost, back in April of 2007 a student was suspended from the Lewiston Maine Middle School for putting a ham sandwich down on a table where a Muslim student was also sitting. It was referred to as a "hate crime".
The latest incident of "Muslim outrage" involves a middle-school student purportedly placing a ham sandwich wrapped in a baggie on a lunch table where Somali Muslim students sit. One 14 year-old unnamed Somali student is reported to have said: "At the school the next day, I didn't feel safe. I felt like everybody was against me. Before I felt like I fit in, and everything was normal." The ham-placing "offending student" has been suspended, the Maine middle school is calling the placing of the ham sandwich a "hate crime" and the local police are investigating the child. More charges against the child may be forthcoming

Nebraska Gov. wants to implement Arizona illegal immigration law
RWBNews: Illegal immigrants have the potential to bankrupt states. Nebraska has a Governor that isn't going to let that happen. Good for him!
By A. G. SULZBERGER http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/03/us/politics/03nebgov.html?_r=1&ref=politics
This agricultural hub is far removed from any border. It has long been more preoccupied with bolstering its population than keeping people out. And immigrants, legal and otherwise, have been fixtures for years in the fields and meatpacking plants here, helping this state put meat and vegetables on dinner tables around the country.
But even as the state enjoys relative economic health — unemployment, at 4.6 percent, is the third lowest in the nation — illegal immigration has taken a more central and more divisive place in the politics of communities like this one, visibly transformed by an influx of immigrant newcomers.
That shift in political dialogue has been propelled here by Gov. Dave Heineman — even before it was a national issue. Four years ago, Mr. Heineman, a Republican, made his unyielding opposition to illegal immigration a central part of his underdog campaign for governor.
Now, as a popular incumbent heavily favored to win, he recently announced that one of the first acts of his second term would be to press for a law that would make it easier for local police officials to arrest illegal immigrants, which he said would be closely modeled on the controversial law adopted in Arizona that is now being challenged by the Obama administration in court.
"I'm very adamant about this — the federal government has failed to solve the immigration issue," Mr. Heineman said in a recent interview in his offices in Lincoln, where the shelves are stocked with college football paraphernalia and the ceilings and walls are adorned with murals celebrating cultures from around the world. "Next January I believe in every state in America there will be an Arizona-type law introduced."
In an election cycle defined by concerns over jobs and mortgages, government spending and debt, the issue of illegal immigration has become a common talking point on the campaign trail.
Candidates running for office in a dozen states have pledged to introduce legislation similar to the Arizona law, according to a count by the Immigration Reform Law Institute, which supports the passage of such laws. But while some of those efforts are given slim chances of passing, such a law is favored by a large majority of Nebraskans.
This summer, Fremont, where Mr. Heineman got his start on the City Council, barred businesses from hiring illegal immigrants and landlords from renting to them — a contentious battle that unnerved Hispanic residents across the state.
Residents here say that Crete, a city of 6,000 that is dominated by the meatpacking plant looming over downtown, does not share the conflicts that have affected other communities with growing Hispanic populations. Still, there is a palpable unease when talking about immigration.
"We're just getting too many Hispanic people in town," said Gerry Boller, 78, who works at the counter at New Beginnings Thrift Store on Main Avenue. "It seems like they come in and take over."
At Super Latina, a grocery store next door, Jose Banos, the 36-year-old owner, said that when he moved here from El Salvador 15 years ago, there were no stores that catered to the Hispanic community. Now his is one of many.
But immigrants are worried by the situation in Fremont and the talk of replicating the Arizona laws, and some are talking about leaving.
"Arizona needs the law more than we do because on the border, problems with immigrants come with other problems, like guns and drugs," Mr. Banos said. "Here in Nebraska, it's a whole different story. Immigrants in Nebraska are coming for work."
Just over a decade ago the state's two most prominent Republican elected officials — Chuck Hagel, then a senator, and Mike Johanns, a governor who is now in the Senate — banded together to successfully pressure federal authorities not to create a program aimed at cracking down on the hiring of illegal immigrants in the state's meatpacking plants.
Since that time the number of foreign-born residents — the majority of whom are Hispanic — has increased drastically, more than 40 percent since 2000, according to census estimates. The number of illegal immigrants grew more than 50 percent in that time to 45,000, according to estimates by the Pew Hispanic Center, a nonpartisan research group in Washington.
But even if concern about these new arrivals simmered across the state, it did not become a central part of the political dialogue until 2005, when Mr. Heineman was elevated from lieutenant governor to the top post after Mr. Johanns resigned to be United States agriculture secretary.
Mr. Heineman's tenure was expected to be short. The next year, in the Republican primary, he faced the University of Nebraska's much-beloved football coach turned congressman, Tom Osborne. But Mr. Heineman proved a more deft campaigner and lavished attention on the issue of illegal immigration.
"It was the defining issue of his campaign," said David J. Kramer, a lawyer and former state Republican chairman who also ran for office that year. "It was the issue that made the difference between him winning and losing."
As governor, Mr. Heineman has emphasized that the state welcomes immigrants, as long as they are legal. He has battled repeatedly, though so far unsuccessfully, to rescind in-state college tuition rates for children who grew up in the state but are in the country illegally.
He put in effect a system to perform mandatory checks of those applying for government benefits to ensure that they are not illegal immigrants. And, more recently, he upset some of his anti-abortion supporters by ending a program that provided prenatal care for pregnant women who are in the country illegally.
But while Mr. Heineman's previous efforts addressed circumstances that affected dozens if not hundreds of illegal immigrants, an Arizona-style law would be far more sweeping.
Mike Meister, a Democrat who is running against Mr. Heineman, has strongly opposed the proposal, which he said was "clearly unconstitutional" and would waste money by forcing the state to fight an inevitable lawsuit. Mr. Meister, a lawyer who is trailing badly in the polls, accused Mr. Heineman of using the proposal as a wedge issue.
"He is pandering to the least common denominator," Mr. Meister said. "Our fear of difference."

AP Says Rick Sanchez Was Fired for Calling Jon Stewart a Bigot; Dismisses His Anti-Semitic Remarks
Is it now off limits to call Jon Stewart names?
Was Rick Sanchez fired for calling Jon Stewart a bigot?
Or, was it maybe his anti-Semitic comments?
If you only read headlines you'd think that Sanchez was let go for lashing out at a fellow television host.
The AP reported:
CNN fired news anchor Rick Sanchez on Friday, a day after he called Jon Stewart a bigot in a radio show interview where he also questioned whether Jews should be considered a minority.
Sanchez, who was born in Cuba and had worked at CNN since 2004, was host of the two-hour "Rick's List" on CNN's afternoon lineup. He did a prime-time version of that show in recent months, but that ended this week because the time slot is being filled by a new show featuring former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer and columnist Kathleen Parker.
Stewart had frequently poked fun of Sanchez on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," most recently for saying on the air that his show had received a tweet from House Republican leader John Boehner. Stewart called it a case of "send a twit a tweet."
"He's upset that someone of my ilk is almost at his level," Sanchez said during a satellite radio interview with Pete Dominick. Details of the interview were posted on the Mediaite website Friday and quickly became a topic of conversation in the media world.
Sanchez said that Stewart is bigoted toward "everybody else that's not like him." He said Stewart "can't relate to what I grew up with," saying his family had been poor and he had seen prejudice directed at his father.
Sanchez dismisses it when Dominick points out that Stewart, who is Jewish, is also a minority.
"I'm telling you that everyone who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority?" Sanchez said, adding a sarcastic "yeah."
"I can't see someone not getting a job these days because they're Jewish," he said.

McDonald's Seeks Health Plan Waivers
4. Predictable and Stable Legal Order
A government with moral and legal authority promulgates written rules and universally, impartially and uniformly enforces the rules, which provides a predictable and stable legal order on which to base economic and personal decisions. The law prevails, not the proclamation or arbitrary decision of a ruler, government bureaucrat, the enforcer (e.g., policeman) or judge.
McDonald's Seeks Health Plan Waivers
McDonald's has approximately 30,000 people insured in a mini-plan, which will not meet some of the mandated requirements of ObamaCare. Dutifully McDonald's asked the federal government for waivers, in essence to disregard a mandate.
The Wall Street Journal reports:
McDonald's, in a memo to federal officials, said "it would be economically prohibitive for our carrier to continue offering" the mini-med plan unless it got an exemption from the requirement to spend 80% to 85% of premiums on benefits.
The Wall Street Journal asked the government as to the viability of the request:
Federal officials say there's no guarantee they can grant mini-med carriers a waiver. They say the answer may not come by November, when many employers require employees to sign up for the coming year's benefits.
The government is waiting for the association of state insurance commissioners to draft recommendations. The head of the association's health-insurance committee, Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger, said she doesn't think these types of mini-med plans deserve an exemption.
"If they are sold as comprehensive coverage, we expect them to meet the same [medical-loss ratio] standards as other health plans," she said.
….
Steven Larsen, the HHS official who received McDonald's email memo, said the department doesn't want employers to drop coverage over the law. The agency says it has already given the carrier for McDonald's and others the chance to seek exemption from new annual limits on benefit payouts.
Immediately responding to the article, the Obama Administration calls the WSJ article premature because the administrative rules have not been completed. Restating the opportunity to seek waivers, a spokesperson obliquely indicated the mini plans will probably be exempt from the initial regulations.
This violates good governance: A government with moral and legal authority promulgates written rules and universally, impartially and uniformly enforces the rules, which provides a predictable and stable legal order on which to base economic and personal decisions. The law prevails, not the proclamation or arbitrary decision of a ruler, government bureaucrat, the enforcer (e.g., policeman) or judge.
Remember the Speaker Pelosi's statement just prior to passage of the legislation: "You've heard about the controversies within the bill, the process about the bill, one or the other. ….
"But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy." …
Because of the size, scope, political pay offs, and stakeholder deals the health care legislation is garbled and incoherent. Tragically it will effect every American. Yes, mandates and enforcement dates are set. After that there is essentially no predictable and stable legal order on which to base economic and personal decisions. Just as McDonald's and their employees are unsure of medical coverage, thousands of companies and millions of citizens are dependent on government bureaucrats to write and adjudicate the rules.
What will the health care law be? Instead of having written rules being universally and uniformly enforced, the law will become the proclamations of the bureaucrats and interpretations by the courts.
Of immediate concern, waiting for the proclamations and interpretations will delay economic expansion.
More important: written rules, universally enforced, providing a stable legal order are essential for a society to excel. Join FreedomWorks to force all elected officials to comply with principles of good governance.

Rights that are guaranteed by our Constitution. At the vanguard of this insidious attack is the Tea Party. This band of misguided citizens is moving perilously close to achieving villainous ends.

Reuters: ObamaCare to worsen doctor shortage
Well we're finding out, and it's all bad. Insurance premiums are increasing even faster than they would have if ObamaCare hadn't passed, and Obama's minions are threatening insurance companies with bankrupcy for even hinting that ObamaCare is the cause (it is). That's in spite of the fact that Democrats have abandoned the claim that ObamaCare will reduce cost and deficit. The Obama regime via the FDA is deep-sixing miracle cancer drugs that extend life because they cost too much (ObamaCare begins early: FDA may pull Avastin approval OVER COST CONCERNS). Insurance companies are being forced to cut coverage plans. Every time socialized medicine has been tried, it's been a proven failure. And I'm not just talking about other countries (Britain, Canada, etc), but rather states here in the US:
Massachusetts should have served as a warning that dumping people onto the doctors adds to the waiting times because there is a corresponding relative shortage in doctors. From al Reuters via memeorandum:
The U.S. healthcare reform law will worsen a shortage of physicians as millions of newly insured patients seek care, the Association of American Medical Colleges said on Thursday. Those ObamaCare forecasts just a few short months ago sure were accurate! They were in fact as much of a fraud as the rest of the claims around the ObamaCare bill. It was never about healthcare. It was all about control. Always is with the regime. The doctor shortage will continue to worsen for the next 15 years!:
The group's Center for Workforce Studies released new estimates that showed shortages would be 50 percent worse in 2015 than forecast.
"While previous projections showed a baseline shortage of 39,600 doctors in 2015, current estimates bring that number closer to 63,000, with a worsening of shortages through 2025," the group said in a statement. The shortage will be most pronounced in specialties such as cardiology, oncology and emergency medicine, where the need is acute. In other words, people will die as a result. But worry not, because ObamaCare will help you quit smoking and that boob job you always wanted will be all taken care of. Just don't get a heart attack. Or cancer. Because if you do the regime doesn't want to go through the expense of keeping you alive. Especially if you're a senior and have been bled dry of your tax contribution.
"The United States already was struggling with a critical physician shortage and the problem will only be exacerbated as 32 million Americans acquire health care coverage, and an additional 36 million people enter Medicare."

Report: Robert Gibbs May Leave White House to Run DNC
Discussion about a possible shift for Robert Gibbs, from White House press secretary to head of the DNC, is circulating among top Democrats. Politico is reporting the plan would involve current DNC chairman being named to a top administration post. The reasoning goes like this:
The logic for a Chairman Gibbs, according to one official: It would "put the Obama imprimatur on the DNC, once and for all," and install a "great partisan fighter" as the face of the national party for the reelection campaign. "It's a brilliant idea if he ends up deciding he wants to do it," said one official who has been consulted.

3M to Change Health-Plan Options for Workers
3M Co. on Friday informed retirees and workers it will stop offering a group health-insurance plan to retirees not old enough for Medicare by 2015, citing the federal health overhaul as a factor.
By JANET ADAMY at WSJ
EXCERPTS:
"As you know, the recently enacted health care reform law has fundamentally changed the health care insurance market," the 3M memo said. "Health care options in the marketplace have improved, and readily available individual insurance plans in the Medicare marketplace provide benefits more tailored to retirees' personal needs often at lower costs than what they pay for retiree medical coverage through 3M.

The Five Year Plan Makes Its American Debut
The Obama perestroika wants to 'coerce' you out of your cars. The central planners have you and your lifestyle targeted for change.
By Marcia Sielaff at American Thinker
EXCERPTS:
This planning methodology was adopted by Communist China among many other bastions of liberty and emulated by Nazi Germany in preparation for WWII. Centralized planning was in force in the Soviet Union between 1928 and 1991, when the Soviet Union collapsed.
"The power which a multiple millionaire, who may be my neighbor and perhaps my employer, has over me is very much less that which the smallest functionaire possesses who wields the coercive power of the state, and on whose discretion it depends whether and how I am able to be allowed to live or work."
- F.A. Hayek
On May 21, LaHood told reporters at the National Press Club that his department has formed an Interagency Partnership for Sustainable Communities with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
He said the partnership was designed to "coerce" people out of their cars. When asked to respond to the complaint that the partnership would intrude in people's lives, he replied, "About everything we do around here is government intrusion in people's lives. So have at it."
The FYP is replete with similar "we're from the government and here to help" rhetoric that attempts to mask the coercion alluded to by Sec. LaHood. Under six "livability" principles — "Safety, State of Good Repair, Economic Competitiveness, and Environmental Sustainability" — the FYP justifies the assaults on liberties that, until now, have been taken for granted: housing choice and mobility.
One of the "innovative strategies" suggested by LaHood, and reported in the Washington Examiner, is that people be taxed for every mile driven: "We should look at the vehicular miles program where people are actually clocked on the number of miles that they traveled."
DOT now resolves to "give the same priority to walking and bicycling as is given to other transportation modes." In other words, funding that would otherwise go to roads and highways will now be diverted to walking and bicycling paths — with traffic congestion and accidents to follow.
Christopher Dodd's Livable Communities Act* would help to solve that "problem" by "connecting housing and employment locations of workers." Anyone who thinks the "connection" would be voluntary is not paying attention. Please refer to an earlier American Thinker article entitled "The Livable Communities Act" for an excellent analysis.

The Hoax Of Global Warming is Spawning Fascists
The Global Warming Scam Artists Are Willing To Resort To Murder To Promote The Great Hoax
The Global Warming Hoaxsters are willing to become fascists to frighten and intimidate children and the feeble minded. Their political campaign of international fraud is being ratcheted up to a new level, now that they are being challenged.
How quick they are to show the underbelly of evil that embodies the Hoax of Global Warming.
We can no longer indulge these criminals and their program of intimidation; the Great Hoax must be stopped in every facet of our Community to expose the fraud before it consumes us, all for control producing countries, by Elites and their sanctimonious followers so willing to employ evil or any means to gain control f the world's superpower. No one assumes that China or Russia will pay more than lip service to the absurdity while waiting for the US and Great Britain to be weakened until they drop to their knees.
These Crypto-Nazis are more than willing to portray the murder of children to promote their scam. Now we must obey their demands or be liquidated. The Maoists and Stalinists of the Global Warming Hoax must be in an orgiastic dream world when they can glimpse the control that Elites are planning.
This film was funded in part by Great Britian, it was pulled within minutes of being shown as a result of public outrage and indignation, it will probably be pulled from You Tube within hours, but there is one copy that will hopefully not disappear from public view.
Watch it if you have a strong stomach and view these sick bastards of International Socialism as they imagine the world after they achieve their dreams of control.

It's every bit as good as rumored from the Twitter stream. Greta van Susteren calls Gloria Allred "insane" and "delusional," and even gets Allred to admit at one point that her client, illegal immigrant Nicki Santilian, won't ever end up in court on this complaint. Susteren calls Allred's ethics into question for exposing the woman [...]

Fwd: Morning Bell: Is the Obama DOJ Committed to Race Neutral Law Enforcement?

Is the Obama DOJ Committed to Race Neutral Law Enforcement?
On May 14, 2010, Department of Justice Civil Rights Division Assistant Attorney General Thomas E. Perez testified before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights about the DOJ's decision to completely drop charges against the New Black Panther Party and two of its members for alleged voter intimidation in violation of the 1964 Voting Rights Act. Perez was also questioned about the department's decision to seek only narrow injunctive relief against a third defendant who wielded a billy club at the polls on Election Day 2008. After his prepared remarks, Commissioner Todd Gaziano (who is also the Director of the Center for Legal & Judicial Studies at The Heritage Foundation) asked Perez: "Do you agree that the voting rights laws should always be enforced in a race-neutral manner?" Perez responded: "Yes, sir."
Gaziano then asked: "It would be a problem for the Civil Rights Division if any political appointee or supervising attorney expressed the view that the voting rights laws should never be enforced against blacks or other racial minorities?" Perez eventually replied: "That is not our practice. We look at facts and the law." Finally, Gaziano pursued: "Let me ask my final question. If we uncovered strong evidence that a current supervising attorney or political appointee senior in your Division made statements that this administration will never bring a voting rights case or, to this effect, will never bring a voting rights case against blacks or other minorities, I hope that you will seriously investigate. And I hope you agree that it would be highly relevant to this investigation and that we should have access to the witnesses to such a statement." Perez assured the Commission under oath: "If you have such a statement, bring such a statement to our attention."
The Commission has since twice produced evidence that both supervising appointees and political appointees at the Justice Department have made clear statements that it is the policy of the Obama Justice Department not to enforce our nation's laws in a race-neutral manner.

You must be kidding me: The Taliban is out-propagandizing us in Afghanistan
When did we start to lose a fricking Facebook war to the Neanderthal Taliban? Facebook? And they're passing out Twitter icons, too.
How: U.S. officials say the Taliban has built relationships with Afghan journalists that help the group shape the storyline. The Taliban's propaganda operation is headquartered in Pakistan, where the Taliban has sanctuaries in ungoverned areas near the Afghan border, Smith said.
Why: "They are not fighting a war that involves military victories," Smith said. "Everything they do is to create a perception that the government can't win."
Impact: "People in provinces and tribal areas mostly accept this narrative, that [the Americans] are leaving Afghanistan and the Taliban is coming back," he said.
Gee, I bet that last part has a lot to do with Obama's deadline to pullout. Go figure.

Psst! Ford Cuts GM's Lead in Half in Sept.; GM Completes Acquisition of Sub-Prime Car Lender
Government/General Motors saw its total vehicle sales fall in September to 173,031 from 185,105 in August. At the same time, Ford's sales increased from to 157,327 to 160,375.
Thus, what was an almost 28,000-vehicle lead for GM in August shrank by more than half to less than 13,000 in September. No one has a crystal ball, of course, but if GM falls and Ford surges by similar amounts in October, Ford will become top-selling brand in the USA.
Associated Press reporters Tom Krisher and Dee-Ann Durbin apparently believe that Ford's move to within clear striking distance of taking over GM is not news that anyone can use. They had their opportunities to mention the situation in their coverage today, and blew right by them.
Oh, and wait until you see what GM is doing to try to keep from losing its Number 1 status.
Here is some of what Krisher and Durbin disseminated (bolds and number tags are mine):
US auto sales remain sluggish despite new models
New models and Labor Day promotions didn't do much to fire Americans' appetites for new cars in September.
Sales at Chrysler and Ford rose slightly from August. They fell at General Motors and Honda and were flat at Toyota. Car companies say a recovery is still happening, but it's not as strong as they had hoped following a terrible 2009.
Expressed as an annual rate, September sales came in at a 11.76 million pace. That's up from a 11.47 million rate in August, but far below 2007's pre-recession total of 16 million. "We're not going to bust loose as you sometimes see after a downturn, but we'll see steady growth," said Don Johnson, GM's vice president of U.S. sales. [1]
... Sales dropped 4 percent from August to 958,966 cars and light trucks, according to AutoData Corp. While it's typical for sales to decline after Labor Day, this August was one of the weakest on record.
... So far, automakers have refused to pump up sales by offering big incentives, which was the usual tactic earlier this decade. Because car makers are now leaner and producing fewer vehicles, they aren't forced to use big discounts to move cars off lots. Incentive spending fell 3 percent from August to September to $2,683 per vehicle, according to auto pricing site TrueCar.com. [2]
But they'll try winning customers in other ways. GM has a new in-house car financing company and plans to offer new lease programs and target buyers with poor credit, a big part of the car buying market. [3]
Auto loans are still restricted for people with poor or mediocre credit scores, Ford's chief economist Ellen Hughes-Cromwick said. It will probably take a few years - and more job creation - for buyers with medium and poor credit to return to the new car market.
But loans are available to people with high credit scores because banks and finance companies are extending credit more easily after last year's all-out freeze, she said. [4]
Notes:
[1] - Of all the people to quote about "busting loose" and "steady growth," Krisher and Durbin picked the spokesman for GM, whose sales from August to September declined by 6.5%.
[2] - According to TrueCar.com's blog, GM vehicles occupied the top four spots in percentage vehicle discounts offered during September. The vehicles involved also appear to have MSRP's that are significantly lower then their direct competition. Additionally, TrueCar's month-earlier comprehensive report (go to Page 3 at this PDF link) indicates that Chevrolet, at 16%, had the highest overall discount level in the industry -- and they're still having a hard time keeping up their sales volume.
[3] - This bad-credit outreach is coming from a company owned by the same government which gave us the Card Act earlier this year.
For those who aren't familiar with it, that law, which is taking effect in gradual, ever more restrictive stages, has placed major restrictions on the amounts and types of credit that can be extended by certain categories of lenders, including the consumer finance arms of department stores and oil companies. It has imposed strict government-mandated credit-granting formulas on those lenders, who in turn have had to severely cut the credit lines of many customers -- not only of those who are clearly overextended, but even of those whose records have never been problematic.
Now GM, in an attempt to preserve what's left of its overall sales lead, has completed its purchase of "non-prime" lender AmeriCredit, is rebranding it as General Motors Financial, and will aggressively pursue granting credit to many of the same consumers/borrowers the government was allegedly trying to "protect" with the Card Act. You can't make this up.
[4] - Krisher, Durbin, and a large swath of the rest of the business press insist on perpetuating the myth of the "all-out freeze" on credit which has supposedly occurred at various times in the past two years (it seems to go all over the place depending on the whims of the reporters involved).
Let's be clear: With the possible (emphasis: possible) exception of a brief period during the fall of 2008, people with high credit scores have had no problem finding lenders willing to consider their applications, and have encountered few if any problems getting their credit applications approved. To prove otherwise, Krisher, Durbin et al owe us a procession -- not a few sob stories, guys, a really procession in the thousands at least -- of people with great credit who will attest to having been turned down, refused or couldn't find lenders who would even take credit apps. I'm still waiting for the proof. I don't believe it will ever arrive, because it's not there.
I haven't been able to determine when October's auto sales announcements are coming out, and of course GM could have a good October and continue to keep Ford at bay. But wouldn't it be something if news that Ford has overtaken GM arrives on November 1, the day before Election Day?
