Gore Effect: Cancun Temperatures Plunge To 100 YEAR LOW During Global Warming Alarmist Summit

from theblogprof

Gore Effect: Cancun Temperatures Plunge To 100 YEAR LOW During Global Warming Alarmist Summit: "
Jesus' reaction to man causing global warming
This is a decline that the alarmists can't hide. Somewhere out there, Jesus is having a heck of a belly-laugh. Just 3 days ago temperatures were only 19 degrees above freezing: Gore Effect: Cancun 20 degrees from freezing during UN global warming alarmist conference, sets low temp record. The temperatures continued to drop and are now at a 100-year low. Oh the irony! From The Week via Ace: Irony alert: The unusually chilly global-warming summit
The irony: As negotiators from nearly 200 countries met in Cancun to strategize ways to keep the planet from getting hotter, the temperature in the seaside Mexican city plunged to a 100-year record low of 54° F. Climate-change skeptics are gleefully calling Cancun's weather the latest example of the 'Gore Effect' — a plunge in temperature they say occurs wherever former Vice President Al Gore, now a Nobel Prize-winning environmental activist, makes a speech about the climate. Although Gore is not scheduled to speak in Cancun, 'it could be that the Gore Effect has announced his secret arrival,' jokes former NASA scientist Roy W. Spencer.

The reaction: ClimateGate was 'bad enough,' says Duncan Davidson in Wall Street Pit, but Cancun's weather is particularly 'inconvenient' for global-warming alarmists. It's a reminder that global temperatures have 'flatlined' despite rising carbon dioxide levels, 'which is decidedly chilling against the concept of hampering economic growth to limit Co2 emissions.' ...
Except that CO2 levels only change by a few parts per million. In other words, insignificantly. In addition, human activity is only responsible for about 3% of CO2 emissions, the bulk 97% from nature via oceans and decaying vegetation. Man cannot change the climate. We can only learn to adjust to changes as they happen.

Wikileaks on Iraqi WMD

from RedState

Wikileaks on Iraqi WMD: "

During the Iraq War much was made by the left of the failure to locate stockpiles of chemical agents or nuclear materials. Despite the obvious duplicity of the Saddam Hussein regime and the childlike incredulity and fecklessness of Hans Blix and his merry men we were supposed to believe that the failure to find these weapons and materials meant they didn’t exist.

Now enters Wikileaks.

Noah Schachtman at Wired’s Danger Room (a credible and creditable source before it’s inexplicable decision to hire the cretinous Spencer Ackerman) has the run down.

Without recounting each incident, suffice it to say that chemical munitions were encountered with monotonous regularity during combat operations from 2003 forward and on at least two occasions foreign chemical weapons specialists were apprehended.

None of this is to refight old battles. But the reports of mysterious convoys crossing into Syria from Iraq in the days prior to the war have never been adequately investigated and all claims that Saddam would not entrust the Assad regime with his chemical weapons or nuclear materials simply vaporizes when one considers that Iran gave safe haven to Iraq’s air force during the first Gulf War when they had just finished up a decade long slugfest.

In my view the jury is out on this subject and may never return a verdict. Regardless, Saddam is dead still dead and Iraq is not a maker of chemical weapons or a customer for nuclear technology.

UN Conference Yields Climate Deal: "

By Arthur Max

CANCUN, Mexico -- A U.N. conference on Saturday adopted a modest climate deal creating a fund to help the developing world go green, though it deferred for another year the tough work of carving out deeper reductions in carbon emissions causing Earth to steadily warm.

Though the accords were limited, it was the first time in three years the 193-nation conference adopted any climate action, restoring faith in the unwieldy U.N. process after the letdown a year ago at a much-anticipated summit in Copenhagen.

At least Joseph Stalin didn't look like a second assistant librarian with a fondness for sniffing little boys' bicycle seats. Presenting Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont:

When have productive people created as much wealth as they should be permitted to create without the government demonizing them and confiscating their earnings? As soon as they have acquired enough to be worth the kleptocracy's while to steal.

For socialist thieves like Sanders, who are literally looting our country into bankruptcy, to accuse those who produce the wealth they seize of greed is the ne plus ultra of liberal hypocrisy.

Fraud: MI solar company gets $42 million to manufacture solar panels in India, creates only 17 jobs

from theblogprof

Fraud: MI solar company gets $42 million to manufacture solar panels in India, creates only 17 jobs: "Seventeen jobs. SEVENTEEN! That's all we have to show for Granholm throwing $42 million for GlobalWatt to move to Michigan. For background, here's a report from September by Kathy Hoekstra of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy:
The Center's Kathy Hoekstra and Mike LaFaive discovered claims made by GlobalWatt on its application for state tax credits were misleading or simply not true (making false claims on such an application is a felony). Those tax credits were contingent upon GlobalWatt following through on promises of job creation.
Job promises that never materialized: TV5 Investigates: High-Tech Jobs, Help Wanted?
For the past year, you’ve been hearing a lot about solar technology and how it can bring new life to this area traditionally known for making vehicles.

Jobs were promised and hopes were high -- but now that hope is turning into holdups and frustration from the top.

Can this once bright future already be dimming for our region?
Click on this pic for the TV5 video report:
Only 17 people are currently employed by GlobalWatt. Let's see - $42 million divided by 17 people equals out to be about $2.5 million per person, which will pay for itself in about 10,000 years. Maybe. And the panels that they are selling are made in India:
Chris Philbrick is a former consultant with Globalwatt. He says while employed by GlobalWatt, he visited Hindhivac (HHV), a company in India, to build a business relationship. Philbrick says GlobalWatt ordered 12 solar panels from HHV, five of which are the items depicted on eBay.

GlobalWatt admits in an e-mail via eBay, 'These are Made in India. But they are using very high content of US made material. The cells are from Suniva, from Georgia.'

Philbrick explains that these panels may even have GlobalWatt labels on them, 'This is perfectly legal and may be part of the business plan, but there isn't as much money to be made in selling solar panels on behalf of another company.'
And this is going to improve Michigan's economy... how???

US Navy releases the Kraken - a railgun superweapon

from theblogprof

US Navy releases the Kraken - a railgun superweapon: "Gotta love tech (and I so do). From Fox News via memeorandum: Navy Sets World Record With Incredible, Sci-Fi Weapon. Included in the piece is this awesome vid:
Watch the latest video at video.foxnews.com
I remember having a rail gun in the video game Quake (2? 3? It was years ago). This sound just like it, but bigger:
A theoretical dream for decades, the railgun is unlike any other weapon used in warfare. And it's quite real too, as the U.S. Navy has proven in a record-setting test today in Dahlgren, VA.

Rather than relying on a explosion to fire a projectile, the technology uses an electomagnetic current to accelerate a non-explosive bullet at several times the speed of sound. The conductive projectile zips along a set of electrically charged parallel rails and out of the barrel at speeds up to Mach 7.
My nerd brethren call Mach 7 and beyond 'hypersonic.' Because it sounds cool. Which it is.
The result: a weapon that can hit a target 100 miles or more away within minutes.

'It's an over-used term, but it really changes several games,' Rear Admiral Nevin P. Carr, Jr., the chief of Naval Research, told FoxNews.com prior to the test.

...An electromagnetic railgun offers a velocity previously unattainable in a conventional weapon, speeds that are incredibly powerful on their own. In fact, since the projectile doesn't have any explosives itself, it relies upon that kinetic energy to do damage. And at 11 a.m. today, the Navy produced a 33-megajoule firing -- more than three times the previous record set by the Navy in 2008.

'It bursts radially, but it's hard to quantify,' said Roger Ellis, electromagnetic railgun program manager with the Office of Naval Research. To convey a sense of just how much damage, Ellis told FoxNews.com that the big guns on the deck of a warship are measured by their muzzle energy in megajoules. A single megajoule is roughly equivalent to a 1-ton car traveling at 100 mph. Multiple that by 33 and you get a picture of what would happen when such a weapon hits a target.
Pure awesome. No explosives. Lower cost. And you can use the enemy's own weapons against them. Shoot on of these hypersonic solid projectiles at a bomb on board an enemy ship and pass the popcorn...

More Wikileaks Damage: Pope Wanted Muslim Turkey Kept Out of EU: "

The hits keep coming…

As the Obama Administration continues to twiddle their thumbs, the damage from the Wikileaks cables continues. The latest cable made public describes how Pope Benedict XVI wanted to keep Turkey out of the EU.

(Top News)

Benedict had concerns that Muslim Turkey could enter the EU without having made the necessary advances in religious freedom.

The Guardian reported:

The pope is responsible for the Vatican’s growing hostility towards Turkey joining the EU, previously secret cables sent from the US embassy to the Holy See in Rome claim.

In 2004 Cardinal Ratzinger, the future pope, spoke out against letting a Muslim state join, although at the time the Vatican was formally neutral on the question.

The Vatican’s acting foreign minister, Monsignor Pietro Parolin, responded by telling US diplomats that Ratzinger’s comments were his own rather than the official Vatican position.

The cable released by WikiLeaks shows that Ratzinger was the leading voice behind the Holy See’s unsuccessful drive to secure a reference to Europe’s “Christian roots” in the EU constitution. The US diplomat noted that Ratzinger “clearly understands that allowing a Muslim country into the EU would further weaken his case for Europe’s Christian foundations”.

But by 2006 Parolin was working for Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI, and his tone had distinctly chilled. “Neither the pope nor the Vatican have endorsed Turkey’s EU membership per se,” he told the American charge d’affaires, “rather, the Holy See has been consistently open to accession, emphasising only that Turkey needs to fulfil the EU’s Copenhagen criteria to take its place in Europe.”

But he did not expect the demands on religious freedom to be fulfilled: “One great fear is that Turkey could enter the EU without having made the necessary advances in religious freedom. [Parolin] insisted that EU members – and the US – continue to press the [Turkish government] on these issues … He said that short of ‘open persecution’, it couldn’t get much worse for the Christian community in Turkey.”

Delegates at UN Junk Science Conference Agree to $100 Billion Deal

Delegates at the UN conference in Cancun agreed to a $100 billion billion fund to redistribute wealth from rich nations to help developing nations deal with global warming.
CNN reported:

Delegates at the United Nations climate change conference in Cancun, Mexico, approved an agreement early Saturday morning despite objections from Bolivia, whose government claimed rich nations "bullied and cajoled" other countries into accepting a deal on their terms.

Protesting the overrule of its country's vote, Bolivia's Foreign Ministry called the Cancun text "hollow" and ineffective in a written statement.

"Its cost will be measured in human lives. History will judge harshly," the statement said, adding that developing nations will face the worst consequences of climate change.

The agreement includes plans to create a $100 billion fund to help developing nations deal with global warming and increase efforts to reduce emissions from deforestation.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon hailed the deal — the culmination of an overnight marathon session at the end of two weeks of talks.

"It begins a new era of cooperation in climate change. They are the first steps in this long and renewed campaign," he said.

Christiana Figueres, the UN's chief negotiator at the conference, said the results had "reignited" hope in climate change talks.

"Nations have shown they can work together under a common roof, to reach consensus on a common cause. They have shown that consensus in a transparent and inclusive process can create opportunity for all," she said in a statement.

More than 1000 dissenting scientists (updates previous 700 scientist report) from around the globe have now challenged man-made global warming claims made by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and former Vice President Al Gore.

Two Prominent Black Georgia Democrats Bolt Party to Join GOP

Welcome home, Ashley Bell.

Hall County Commissioner Ashley Bell, a former national president of the College Democrats of America, was a 2004 delegate to the Democratic National Convention. (Hall County)

Two prominent black Georgia democrats announced they would bolt the party to join the GOP. The former democrats said their party had become too liberal.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported:

Two African-American Democrats on Thursday announced that they were joining the Republican Party.

Hall County Commissioner Ashley Bell and former state executive committee member Andre Walker said the Democratic Party had grown too liberal and they are finding a new home with the Republicans.

The state GOP touted Bell as the first black elected official in modern times in Georgia to leave the Democrats for the GOP. But that distinction belongs to former state Sen. Roy Allen of Savannah, who joined the Republican Party in 1994.

Bell was introduced as a Republican at a news conference Thursday at party headquarters.

"My district is pretty Republican as it is," Bell told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "My wife and I have been thinking about this for six months."

He said they are both conservative "and the Democratic Party has been our home. The party had conservatives and liberals both in the party. [But] this election showed us the liberal wing of the Democratic Party is very, very strong. If your'e a conservative, it became more difficult to be in the Democratic Party."

Bell, a former national president of the College Democrats of America, was a 2004 delegate to the Democratic National Convention.

Bell has two more years left on his term and said he was switching now to make his intentions known. He said he plans to run for re-election as a Republican.

Walker, who runs the political blog Georgia Unfiltered, resigned from the Democratic Party's state executive committee. Walker was a delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention and is a former president of College Democrats of Georgia.

Seven Democratic politicians have now jumped ship and switched parties. On Thursday, Hall County Commissioner Ashley Bell became the seventh Democrat to make the switch to the GOP.

Holder Reassures Muslims of DOJ’s Anti-Bias Focus

MILLBRAE, Calif. (AP) — Attorney General Eric Holder reiterated his resolve to prosecute hate crimes while standing behind the methods used in anti-terrorism cases during a speech Friday night before a Muslim advocacy group near San Francisco.

Speaking to Muslim Advocates, a San Francisco-based group, Holder told the group that he's heard from many Muslim and Arab Americans who feel uneasy and singled out by law enforcement.

The organization is one of several groups voicing concerns over hate crimes, alleged rights violations at the hands of law enforcement and the tactics used in anti-terrorism cases.

Carefully-crafted sting operations by FBI and Justice Department officials have included plots against a Portland, Ore., Christmas celebration, Dallas skyscrapers, Washington subways, a Chicago nightclub and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Undercover operatives in these cases have let suspects make clear they wanted to carry out an attack and gave them a chance to change their mind, according to authorities.

But Holder told the group he would make "no apologies" for the handling of the case against Mohamed Osman Mohamud, 19, a Somali-born Muslim accused of plotting to set off a bomb in Oregon.

"Those who characterize the FBI's activities in this case as "entrapment" simply do not have their facts straight or do not have a full understanding of the law."

In that case, Mohamud has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder of federal officers and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. After his arrest, someone set fire to an Islamic center where he occasionally worshipped.

Critics have called the stings entrapment of people who otherwise couldn't have carried out an attack and said the government has been enticing Muslims into terrorism.

"We have very serious concerns about FBI surveillance tactics that are used. We believe that law enforcement has an important job to protect us as a country but they should do so mindful of the rules of justice and fairness that are at the core of our criminal justice system," said Muslim Advocates executive director Farhana Khera, who invited Holder to speak to the group.

Despite the differences of opinion, Holder received strong applause and a standing ovation. Attendees said they felt reassured by his remarks on protecting the civil liberties of Muslim Americans.

Petraeus Top Aide Marvin Hill: Troops Who Can’t Support Repeal of DADT Need to Get Out

Get out!

General David Petraeus and top aide Command Sergeant Major Marvin Hill (Huffington Post)

Top aide to General Petraeus Command Sergeant Major Marvin Hill told US troops who cannot support the repeal of Clinton's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy to leave the military.
The Huffington Post reported:

Troops who can't accept the idea of overturning the ban on gays in the military should consider leaving the service, says a senior aide to Gen. David Petraeus.

Command Sergeant Major Marvin Hill tells TV One's "Washington Watch" that he believes "the troops are ready" for the repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.

"If there are people who cannot deal with the change, then they're going to have to do what's best for their troops and best for the organization and best for the military service and exit the military service, so that we can move forward — if that's the way that we have to go," Hill says in an interview with Roland Martin, scheduled to air Sunday.

Hill says it will be up to military brass to "set the tone" for the rank-and-file in accepting gay service members.

Via
Gateway Pundit and Dakota Voice. And at the Daily Republic, "US Rep.-elect Noem delivers Republican address":

U.S. Rep.-elect Kristi Noem delivered the weekly Republican address Saturday, reiterating her calls to cut spending and reduce the size of government.

The South Dakota Republican said in her remarks that she's encouraged by President Obama's proposal to renew the Bush tax cuts set to expire on Jan. 1.

Noem says small businesses need certainty, and renewing the tax cuts alone won't eliminate job uncertainty.

She also called for lawmakers to repeal the health care law passed earlier this year.

Noem says she's part of a new majority committed to being humble, more modest and more focused in addressing the nation's challenges.

Can you guess which voice of moderation on the Left said this?

Can you guess which voice of moderation on the Left said this?

Democrats’ Policies Based on Dogma, Hopes, Dreams, not Reality

For people on the left in Europe, the United States and elsewhere, belief in the state — the notion that the state can do a better job at helping people and making a good society — is one such dogma.

Dennis Prager at Townhall.com

EXCERPTS:

Given the huge economic failures that the left itself attributes to Medicare and Medicaid and given the economic collapse or near collapse of these systems in other countries, the left's prescriptions can only be explained in one way: The left has made its views a form of religion.

Another is the belief that manmade carbon dioxide emissions are heating the world to the point of imminent worldwide catastrophe, including island nations disappearing underwater, mass starvation, inundation of the world's major coastal areas and much more.

Dogma explains why it is useless to point out to the left how the left has economically crippled California, once the most prosperous, most adventurous, most successful "country" in the world (it has an economy that would make it about the seventh largest country in the world). Likewise, it does not matter to blacks what Democrats have done to their cities. As they watch their cities crumble, they will once again vote overwhelmingly for the party that oversaw this destruction.

None of these facts matters because religious-like dogmas are not derived from facts.

Video: Oprah Refuses To Answer If Sarah Palin Is Qualified for President

Palin was a mayor of Wasilla and Governor of Alaska. Obama was a community organizer that hadn't done anything of any significance and had exactly zero executive experience. Oprah belives the latter has the required experience, but the former does not. It's why she refused to answer a simple question:
Jim Hoft comments:
Obviously, Sarah Palin does not have the years of experience teaching Alinsky tactics to ACORN activists that is needed for success in the Oval Office.
The interview with Palin that Walters alluded to above his here via NewsBusters: Palin to Walters: The Media Made People Think I'm Scary, Polarizing and Uninformed
BARBARA WALTERS, HOST: Well, you know, Governor, many people find the thought of you as president a little scary. You hear, "Oh, she's very charming, but she's uninformed." What are they afraid of?

SARAH PALIN: You know, I hear the, the, the comment out there that's made often that I'm polarizing, and, so I'm surprised that you didn't use that, that word.

WALTERS: Okay, I'll use it: you're polarizing. Okay.

PALIN: Why is that? I think it's because the media has shaped that persona and allowed that to be out there as a misconception and a misperception about my, what my values are and what the positions are that I support.

WALTERS: What about the accusation that you're uninformed?

PALIN: That, too, I think is something that's been pretty much ginned up by the press.
It's true. If the establishment MSM would have treated Obama like they treated Palin, McCain would be the President and Palin the VP.

Study: Even looking at second-hand smoke will cause your DNA to explode

Junk scientists are out again waging a full-scale assault on second-hand smoke. Never mind that people like Obama continue to enjoy first-hand smoke. The studies themselves are a farce because you simply cannot gauge how much 2nd hand smoke someone breathes, much less a total number for the entire planet. But this one may take the cake. From The Grand Rapids Press via MLive: Report: Even one cigarette or brief exposure to secondhand smoke damages DNA, causes cancer. The piece includes a warning by the Surgeon General of teh US that is so obese she is the size of two people:
From the article:
A U.S. Surgeon General report released today confirms what many anti-smoking advocates have believed for years – even brief exposure to secondhand smoke or the occasional light up causes instant damage to the body.

our morbidly obese Surgeon General
The scientific study, "How Tobacco Smoke Causes Disease: The Biology and Behavioral Basis for Smoking-Attributable Disease" said tobacco smoke contains a "deadly mixture" of more than 7,000 toxic, cancer-causing chemicals that damage DNA with every exposure.

"The chemicals in tobacco smoke reach your lungs quickly every time you inhale causing damage immediately," said U.S. Surgeon General Regina M. Benjamin, who hosted a press conference broadcast live on the Internet.

"I think people think that they can smoke for a while and just quit and then then the damage will go away because your body has an uncanny ability to heal itself" said Mishelle Bakewell, Metro Health's representative to West Michigan's Tobacco Free Partners. "What people don't realize is you never know what that one cigarette will do to you."

The findings also show it's not just heavy smokers who get smoking-related diseases, or have heart or asthma attacks triggered by cigarette smoke.

"Smoking is radioactive," said Dr. Tom Peterson, chair of Tobacco Free Partners and executive director of safety, quality and community health for Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.

"Smoking causes more disease and death than anything else that exists," he said.
I beg to differ. There are far bigger things to be concerned about: Shock: 600k annual deaths from 2nd hand smoke. Non-shock: 42 MILLION annual deaths from 1st hand abortion. Why doesn't the AP wring its wrists and gnash their teeth in opining that abortion be banned rather than smoking because of so many deaths? In fact, abortion is the #3 cause of death worldwide after heart disease and stroke (the WHO of course doesn't list abortion, but just check the numbers). Abortion is also the #1 risk factor for breast cancer that claims 500,000 women annually. Let's listen to the science and ban abortion before going after 2nd hand anything.

One thing I suspect not said in the study is that most of those 7,000 chemicals are reaction not just to cigarette smoke but any kind of smoke. Wood fireplaces, tailpipe emissions, etc. You name it. It's totally junk science. Our morbidly obese surgeon general, by the way, was on the Burger King payroll.
