(Vermont History)
On this day in 1865, the 13th Amendment — abolishing slavery — became part of the Constitution — when ratified by three-quarters of the states. Despite protests from the Democrats, the Republican Party made banning slavery part of its national platform in 1864. Senator Lyman Trumbull (R-IL) wrote the final version of the text, combining the proposed wordings of several other Republican congressmen.
Obama paints himself as a hero in so-called tax cut “compromise”
Obama paints himself as a hero in so-called tax cut “compromise”: "
Well, we couldn’t expect much else from the guy who promised as a candidate to heal the oceans, could we? Via Fox News:
President Obama outlined the “framework” of a deal with congressional leaders for a temporary extension of the Bush-era tax cuts in all income tax brackets, a compromise that he said would avert the “chilling prospect” of a tax increase next month for all Americans.
Obama, at a White House news conference Monday evening, renewed his calls for tax relief targeting the middle class and his criticism of making tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans permanent.
But in the end, he said, a compromise must be reached before the Bush-era tax cuts expire at the end of the year, or else ordinary Americans would become “collateral damage for political warfare in Washington.”
“I am not willing to let that happen,” he said.
Obama outlined a deal with congressional leaders that would extend the expiring tax cuts for all Americans temporarily for two years. Unemployment benefits for long-term jobless would through next year. The estate tax rate would be renewed at the previously lower rate temporarily.
The Obama administration also is proposing a one-year payroll tax reduction that sources say would cut the amount contributed to Social Security from 6.2 percent to 4.2 percent.
“I have no doubt that everyone will find something in this compromise that they don’t like,” he said, but “we cannot play politics at a time when the American people are looking for us to solve problems.”
Yeah, because we know he’s so above playing politics at a time when the American people he claims to want to keep from being “collateral damage” are suffering the most – oh, you know, like when he spent the first year of his administration focusing primarily on getting ObamaCare monstrosity shoved through the House and Senate, and like when he’s talked enthusiastically (not!) about extending the Bush tax cuts over the last several months in an effort to encourage businesses to create jobs and people to spend money, and …
Well, you get the picture.
A hero he is not. The best way for the government to be a “hero” during hard economic times (and for that matter, even when economic times are good) is not to promote policies that make it harder for businesses to invest, and that keep the American people from spending money on goods and services. But telling that to an administration that believes that government is the answer to everything is sort of like telling a child who wants everything that money doesn’t grow on trees: You can emphasize it until you’re blue in the face, but they won’t believe it until they’ve grown-up and matured. Of course, with children, there’s a strong likelihood that they’ll grow-up and mature. Liberals, on the other hand? A different story altogether.

The Fed operated as a global pawnshop taking in practically anything the banks had for collateral.
by mybudget360
The Federal Reserve released a stunning report showing the details of bailouts that occurred during the peak of the credit crisis. They won’t call it “bailouts” but giving money when others won’t is exactly that. What the report shows is that the Fed operated as a global pawnshop taking in practically anything the banks had for collateral. What is even more disturbing is that the Federal Reserve did not enact any punitive charges to these borrowers so you had banks like Goldman Sachs utilizing the crisis to siphon off cheap collateral. The Fed is quick to point out that “taxpayers were fully protected” but mention little of the destruction they have caused to the US dollar. This is a hidden cost to Americans and it also didn’t help that they were the fuel that set off the biggest global housing bubble ever witnessed by humanity. A total of $9 trillion in short-term loans were made to 18 financial institutions. Still think the banking bailout didn’t happen or cost us nothing? Let us first look at the explosion of assets on the Fed balance sheet.
The Fed is still carrying longer term debt on its books that shouldn’t be there:
The Fed typically would carry under $900 billion in high quality government Treasuries on its balance sheet. But today it is carrying roughly $2.4 trillion in “assets” and the biggest part of this is made up of questionable mortgages:
Over $1 trillion of mortgage backed securities sit on the Fed balance sheet and QE2 is only starting. Other tens of billions of dollars are sitting in the balance sheet as well that include failed commercial real estate projects and defunct shopping centers around the country. Of course the Fed would like to give the appearance that all is well but no one makes $9 trillion in short-term loans without undergoing serious problems. And doesn’t it bother the public that an institution that represents our banking system essentially bailed out the world at the expense of US taxpayers (without asking by the way) and now taxpayers are having to deal with a toxic banking system and a jobs market that is hammered into the ground?
This concern was raised:
“(NY Times) But Senator Bernard Sanders, independent of Vermont, who wrote a provision in the law requiring the disclosures by Dec. 1, reached a different conclusion.
“After years of stonewalling by the Fed, the American people are finally learning the incredible and jaw-dropping details of the Fed’s multitrillion-dollar bailout of Wall Street and corporate America,” he said. “Perhaps most surprising is the huge sum that went to bail out foreign private banks and corporations.”
Senator Sanders is absolutely right. Did you also know that billions of dollars went to foreign central banks as well? We all know the issues going on with the European Zone today but the Fed never mentioned this during the bailout frenzy. Don’t be fooled when the Fed says there is no cost associated. 26 million Americans are unemployed or underemployed and 44 million Americans are on food assistance. The US dollar has done the following in the last decade:
Yet this is the response:
“In a statement accompanying the disclosure, the Fed said it had fully protected taxpayers. “The Federal Reserve followed sound risk-management practices in administering all of these programs, incurred no credit losses on programs that have been wound down, and expects to incur no credit losses on the few remaining programs,” it said.”
Sound risk-management? The entire purpose is to destroy the currency in a slow methodical process and inflate away the debt. Yet there is a cost to this born by the many for the few. Over the last decade it has meant the depreciation of the dollar by 33 percent. That is a real cost. It might not be a big deal if you hold money in foreign countries but most Americans only have a paycheck that is issued in US dollars. The actual amount of Fed loans is simply jaw dropping:
“At home, from March 2008 to May 2009, the Fed extended a cumulative total of nearly $9 trillion in short-term loans to 18 financial institutions under a credit program.
Previously, the Fed had only revealed that four financial firms had tapped the special lending program, and did not reveal their identities or the loan amounts.
The data appeared to confirm that Citigroup, Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley were under severe strain after the collapse of Lehman Brothers in September 2008. All three tapped the program on more than 100 occasions.”
Keep in mind that unemployment insurance will cost roughly $4 billion per month and most of this money will go back into the economy. Congress is stalling on this yet the media is completely silent on the $9 trillion in Federal Reserve loans? This should be the headline story over and over until people realize how big the bailout was (and how this false dichotomy is being used as propaganda in the media as if $4 billion a month is going to bankrupt the system). The banking elites just want to shift the blame to “poor” people while ignoring the elephant in the room which are the trillions of dollars in Fed loans.
Everyone got in the game:
“Big institutional investors, like Pimco, T. Rowe Price and BlackRock, borrowed from the TALF program. So did the California Public Employees Retirement System, the nation’s largest public pension fund, and several insurers and university endowments.”
Every big player got into this and you will recall the rhetoric that it was for small businesses and the American consumer. None of that happened. Banks are still sitting on incredibly large excess reserves:
The Fed is operating without any checks and balances from Congress and another trillion dollar exposure has come out with the mainstream media channels like ABC, CBS, and NBC all remaining silent. Can’t interrupt Wheel of Fortune right?

Holiday Treat for the Bush Tax Cuts?
Holiday Treat for the Bush Tax Cuts?: "
Maybe it’s the holiday season, but if the reports are true President Obama and congressional Republicans have reached a compromise on extending the Bush tax cuts that gives taxpayers and the economy a wondrous gift.
While details are sketchy and ever-so-important, President Obama announced he has agreed to extend all the Bush tax cuts for two years, through 2012. The necessity of economic growth trumped the ideology of redistributionism, though the President did take plenty of jabs at the wealthiest Americans. The compromise also includes the unfortunate resurrection of the death tax, but at a less punishing rate of 35 percent combined with a $5 million exemption. Two things to remember as the debate turns over to Congress: keeping current tax policy is not a tax cut, it’s preventing a tax hike, and would let all Americans keep more of their own money. Since this isn’t a tax cut, it doesn’t need to be “paid” for. The unfortunate part of this compromise is that it is not a permanent extension which would have been far better for the economy.
In exchange, the President got a 13 month extension of Unemployment Insurance benefits — without having to offset the cost – as well as a temporary 2 percentage point reduction in the payroll tax in lieu of an extension of Obama’s ghastly “Make-Work-Pay” tax credit left over from the failed stimulus bill. Other important issues such as the extension of the AMT patch may also be included in the deal, but that is unclear. A few more targeted tax cuts were included such as immediate expensing for business investment – a sound policy that should also be made permanent.
If the details bear out, this is a compromise worth embracing. It now falls to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker Nancy Pelosi to decide whether they follow their President’s lead or go their own way, leaving taxpayers a tax hike chunk of coal for the new year.
Enough already of the job killing tax agenda. It’s time to do the right thing for the taxpayers and for the economy. In President’s words: it’s time to speed up the recovery and get people back to work.

WikiLeaks And Claim Of Warmest Year On Record, Expose Climate Criminality: "
Millions of people including children were driven to fear about the world coming to an end. Progress to deal with real problems and improve economies were set back years because of wrong policies. Credibility of science was seriously undermined.
By Dr. Tim Ball
Oh what a tangled web we weave,
When first we practice to deceive!- Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832)
Question; How and why can a year be claimed as the warmest on record two months before it is over? Answer: To help participants in Cancun Climate Conference desperate because the public don’t believe, funding and power is being lost, as their deceptions are exposed.
Most believe 2010 is the warmest year ever, which is what government weather agencies, proponents of anthropogenic global warming and their supporters want. What is actually claimed is that 2010 is on the way to being the warmest on record, but they know media headlines will distort and USA Today along with others obliges with; 2010: Warmest year on record
Distortion and deception became necessary to support the collapsing exploitation of climate science (Figure 1) faced by all enjoying the warmth of Cancun Mexico while attending the Conference of the Parties (COP) 16 climate meeting. The paradox of record cold wasn’t lost on the public.
Figure 1: Sources: (Left and Right
The Same Messengers and The Same Old Gang Of Deceivers
Who is making the claim about warmest year while record cold reinforces public cynicism? It’s the same old cast of deceivers identified by BBC reporter Richard Black, who Michael Mann considered reliable. He’s the person they asked to silence BBC reporter Paul Hudson when he produced a skeptical article. Hudson was first recipient of the leaked CRU emails, but did nothing, apparently intimidated by Black.
Black reports; “Temperatures reached record levels in several regions during 2010, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) says, confirming the year is likely to be among the warmest three on record.”
There were also record lows, but the stations they selected bias toward warm.
Black: The global average temperature was 0.58C above the average for 1961-90 according to Nasa, while the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa) put the figure at 0.54 above.
Why is there a difference if there is only one data set? They both over estimate, but NASA GISS, with political scientist James Hansen in charge, are always highest.
Black: The UK record, kept by the Met Office and the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia, has 2010 in joint first place with the El Nino-dominated year of 1998.
The UKMO is re-examining its data. The Sunday Times notes,
The new analysis of the data will take three years, meaning that the Met Office will not be able to state with absolute confidence the extent of the warming trend until the end of 2012.
All these groups have actively modified the data to emphasize warming. D’Aleo and Watts’ detailed the extent in their paper, “Surface Temperature Records: Policy-Driven Deception?” Reduction in the number of stations alone created a severe warming distortion. (Figure 2) All government weather offices have adjusted their data to reduce early temperatures, making the current readings seem warmer.

Understanding Of Climate Science Necessary To Understand Deception
Some accused me of extremism for asking if the deliberate climate deception constituted crimes against humanity. People don’t want to believe such a massive deception could occur, especially if government is involved. It’s why they dismiss those who see what is happening as conspiracy theorists. There are conspiracies, defined as a secret plan by a group to do something unlawful or harmful. Cabal may be a better description of their actions; “the artifices and intrigues of a group of persons secretly united in a plot (as to overturn a government); also: a group engaged in such artifices and intrigues.” However, deliberately altering data is unlawful and harmful.
There are two big problems created by the exploitation of climate for a political agenda; lack of scientific understanding and lack of knowledge about the political manipulation and criminality practiced. They are interdependent. People don’t grasp the extent of the criminality because they don’t understand the science. It’s why people didn’t understand the implications of the false IPCC Reports and leaked CRU emails.
Now WikiLeaks reveals the extent of government involvement in the deception. The leftist British paper, The Guardian, blames the US with the headline “WikiLeaks cables reveal how US manipulated climate accord” and the charge that, “Hidden behind the save-the-world rhetoric of the global climate change negotiations lies the mucky realpolitik: money and threats buy political support; spying and cyberwarfare are used to seek out leverage.”
They ignore the fact that all nations are involved. Maurice Strong embroiled all the world’s weather and climate bureaucracies when he organized the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change through the WMO. Anthony Watts describes what the WikiLeaks material exposes. “What really strikes us is the fact that all this Copenhagen/Cancun stuff has nothing to do with the Climate, or saving the World. It’s about political positioning, money, and plain old fascism cult promotion.”
Politicians are involved, but most control and duplicity is by national weather agencies. They’re the majority of the IPCC people and dominate conferences like the travesty in Cancun. Politically biased scientists and environmental groups support them. They know the public is not buying the science any more (Figure 1). They’ve switched to exploiting fear, but that exposes them even more as temperatures plummet. Some are so desperate to achieve their goal they’ve openly abandoned the sinking science ship and revealed the real redistribution of wealth agenda. “Last week the German newspaper NZZ Online quoted German economist Ottmar Edenhofer, who is co-chair of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) Working Group III on Mitigation of Climate Change, as saying, “The climate summit in Cancun at the end of the month is not a climate conference, but one of the largest economic conferences since the Second World War.”
James Taylor of the Heartland Institute provides further evidence.
The UN-sponsored climate talks underway in Cancun are living up to – or down to – expectations. Proving once again that global warming is more a political issue than a scientific one at the UN, and that wealth transfer rather than warming mitigation is the true goal of UN action, Professor Kevin Andersen of the UK’s Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research has submitted a paper saying “rich” nations such as the U.S. should halt economic growth over the next 20 years while allowing developing nations such as China and India to continue their explosive growth and emissions growth. Enforcement of economic growth restrictions in nations such as the U.S. should be enforced by World War II-style rationing, according to Andersen.
World Held Hostage to False Climate Science
My question about crimes against humanity was based on the degree of deliberate deception of climate science practiced. The emails leaked from the CRU alone are sufficient to condemn what has occurred. The scientists involved provided the corrupted science through the IPCC that those led by Maurice Strong needed. They were exploiting climate to destroy developed economies and in doing so have caused untold trauma, disruption, costs and despair. Billions of dollars were wasted on research. False economies were created to promote alternative energy and green jobs. Viable industries and businesses have disappeared or are pushed to the edge with unnecessary costs and regulations. Real problems were ignored. Countries that went further down the false CO2 path, such as Spain, are already paying a high price. Food prices are just one example. They soar as corn is diverted to produce biofuels threatening starvation among people in developing regions. Millions of people including children were driven to fear about the world coming to an end. Progress to deal with real problems and improve economies were set back years because of wrong policies. Credibility of science was seriously undermined.
The only thing that allowed the world to withstand some of the damage was the viability and strength of economies built on fossil fuel energy and free market policies. Hopefully, those who don’t understand the climate science will at least understand the corruption, malfeasance, and deceptions in the CRU emails, the WikiLeaks information and other disclosures. It doesn’t require science to understand the tangled web of those deceptions.
