Marines' Leader: Keep Policy on Gays in Military

GOP Plans out Spending Cuts

And it's about time. Perhaps now we can step away from the abyss and start slashing spending like Governor Chris Christie is doing in New Jersey. Unfortunately, of course, the Democrats still hold the White House and the Senate, making cuts more difficult, but the new Republican plan is a start.

To make good on their campaign pledge to reduce the size of government, Republicans say they are planning a series of quick moves to slash spending soon after they take control of the House in January. Among the likely options: a massive rescissions package that aides said would slice 20 percent from most domestic agency budgets and enact $160 billion in additional cuts endorsed by visitors to Cantor's "YouCut" Web site.
Such a package would trim more than $260 billion from this year's $1.1 trillion budget for most government operations - the biggest one-year reduction at least since the military drawdown after World War II, budget experts said.

$260 billion is good, but it's almost a trillion dollars short!

WE WON! And Other Stuff I’ve Wanted To Blog About But Haven’t Had Time To

Keith Olbermann: It's laughable that MSNBC, the emotionally inchoate organization, is unbiased to begin with. Preserving their journalistic integrity, indeed. So they symbolically suspend Olbermann because Olbermann donated to a couple candidates who he gave enthusiastic interviews to on his show violating law sucked so bad on election night even MSNBC was embarrassed. Color me skeptical of the noble intentions over there. These people have to have standards to violate them. Meh. He'll be back.

Can Howard Dean beat Obama? No. But it would be fun.

Was it ideology or stupid people not getting the greatness of Obama that cost the election. Come on…..really, Obama?

I always wonder what happens to kidnapped kids. They're probably brainwashed. How do they recover? Are there longitudinal studies of kidnapped kids?

When I hear commentators say that the Republicans should focus on the economy and not focus on repealing Obamacare (as though both can't be tackled at the same time), I wonder what ax they have to grind because this perspective is patently stupid. The American people rejected Obamacare because of how it affected the economy. For example, this research showing that Obamacare will drive people out of the workforce–which is kinda a "duh" conclusion. Employer costs go up, employing employees go down because staffing is the biggest overhead. Hello? Business 101. Dear squishes. Republicans can use tough rhetoric and then craft a bill that will mollify voters until Obama's rear is booted in 2012. Politics. Embrace the possibilities.

Turns out that you're a douche canoe because your great grandpa was too. We all kinda knew this and the research confirms the Christian notion of the sins of the fathers being visited upon the third and fourth generation. Why, of course it is–genetically, economically and geo-politically. Can it be changed? Sure. Choice is always a part of life, but don't underestimate genetics or history. They're powerful forces.

Will the Left be happy with President Obama? Are the left EVER happy? Hahahaha! No.

Do Republicans have something to learn from the election? Oh yes. Do Democrats have a bigger lesson to learn? Double yes. Will they? They haven't so far. Here's the thing: Socialism, in all it's worldwide glorious failure, is enticing. I mean, who doesn't want to get something for nothing? Even better, who doesn't want to take from your Jackass neighbor who has a better house, car, wife, cow, etc. It's called coveting. It's human. It's wrong. And socialism appeals to the base, crass, evil impulse in humans and feeds it while painting the covetousness as morally justifiable while simultaneously ignoring human nature.

Valerie Plame is still vile. Go. Away. You know, hide, like CIA agents are so good at doing….since you're a super awesome secretly agenty person. Bleh.

People focusing on the lack of Republican control of the Senate (mostly power grubbing Republican Senators) miss the most important elections this season: The annihilation of the Democratic party at the state level. This is sweet, sweet justice. Redistricting is the gift that keeps on giving. Guess what, Democrats, welcome to electoral pain.

Dear @$$holes,
You know who you are. You're Jonesin' for some presidential candidate and blab off the record about Sarah Palin because you know that she will be the one to make your candidate's life hard should she decide to run in the 2012 Presidential primary. Get over it, weaky. If she wants to run, she'll be a contender. All your bitching just serves to solidify her standing with the GOP base–don't think it doesn't. If you had even a shred of political sense, you'd know that you're feeding the beast you so desperately want dead.
Sincerely,
Me

Beautiful.

Irony. It burns.

Bigots!

The future.

I don't think this is unnecessary at all.

Weep, Democrats. Weep.

This Oughta Be Good… Allen West Will Join Congressional Black Caucus

Republican Allen West announced yesterday that he is interested in joining the Congressional Black Caucus.
Breitbart TV reported:

It looks like the Congressional Black Caucus currently has 42 members.

Republicans Allen West and Tim Scott are split on joining the Congressional Black Caucus.
The Politico reported:

Allen West is coming to Washington with a message for the all-Democratic Congressional Black Caucus: He wants in.

West told POLITICO he'd "absolutely" be interested in joining the CBC. "That has been a monolithic voice in the body politic for far too long. There is a growing conservative black voice in this country," West said, that needs to be represented in Washington.

West, of Florida, and Tim Scott of South Carolina will be the first two black Republicans to serve in Congress since J.C. Watts, who refused to join the CBC, and the first black GOP members from the Deep South since Reconstruction, but the two have different ideas about whether they should join the CBC, which hasn't had a Republican member since Connecticut Rep. Gary Franks, who lost his seat in 1996.

"I haven't really decided. I'm probably leaning against it at this point," said Scott, whose 89-year-old grandfather was with him Tuesday night when he won a seat in South Carolina's 1st District. "My experience has been the whole notion of one nation — so I really shy away things that create some kind of boundaries. … It highlights the divisions I've been pushing forward to erase."

Scott served in the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus, he said, and "had some great relationships for the first year. But we were so often on a different page that — it was a good time, but besides building bridges in relationships, which was incredibly important — it didn't serve my legislative objectives. So I didn't join the second year."

Too funny.

Crazy Maddow defended Olbie and MSNBC:

"Keith is a liberal, so am I. There are other people on this network whose political views are shared openly with our viewers. We are not a political operation. FOX is. We are a news operation. The rules around here are part how you know. Keith Olbermann attracted the ire of the right-wing and raged against what he saw as the errors and sins of the previous administration. Keith was also the one who brought to light FOX News' water-carrying role for the Bush administration."

Good grief.
The whole channel's nuts.

Obama Flees Country, Announces Impending Tax Hike

He says "we" can't afford letting people keep more of their own money, as if it's to government's money to begin with. He clearly hasn't learned a thing from Tuesday's beatdown at the polls.
But at a time when we are going to ask folks across the board to make such difficult sacrifices, I don’t see how we can afford to borrow an additional $700 billion from other countries to make all the Bush tax cuts permanent, even for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans. We’d be digging ourselves into an even deeper fiscal hole and passing the burden on to our children.

I recognize that both parties are going to have to work together and compromise to get something done here. But I want to make my priorities clear from the start. One: middle class families need permanent tax relief. And two: I believe we can’t afford to borrow and spend another $700 billion on permanent tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires.
Senator-elect Marco Rubio gets it:
The challenges are too great, too generational in scope for us to be merely opponents of bad policies. Instead, we will put forward bold ideas and have the courage to fight for them. This means preventing a massive tax increase scheduled to hit every American taxpayer at the end of the year. It means repealing and replacing the disastrous health care bill. It means simplifying our tax code, and tackling a debt that is pushing us to the brink of our own Greece-like day of reckoning.
If the Democrats are so stupid as to sock us with a tax increase, and letting the Bush tax cuts expire means exactly that, they'll have confirmed they did not receive the message Tuesday.

This election the American people said enough is enough. That message was loud and clear. — Senator-elect Marco Rubio

Senator-Elect Marco Rubio gets it. In today's Weekly Republican Address, Senator-Elect Rubio talks about what the Republicans must do to get the country headed back in the right direction:

  • Govern as public servants who understand that re-election is simply a byproduct of good public service and good ideas;
  • Stand up and offer an alternative to the policies coming out of Washington for the past two years;
  • Put forward bold ideas and have the courage to fight for them;
  • Prevent the massive Obama tax increase scheduled to hit every American taxpayer at the end of the year;
  • Repealing and replacing ObamaCare;
  • Simplifying the tax code; and
  • Reducing the national debt.

Rubio understands better than many of us why America is exceptional:

I know about the unique exceptionalism of our country. Not because I read about it in a book, I've seen it through my own eyes. You see, I was raised in a community of exiles, by people who lost their country, people who once had dreams like we do today, but had to come to a foreign shore to find them.

Unlike many of our political leaders, Rubio asks us to hold the Republicans accountable to the ideas and principles they campaigned on.

Rubio is going to be a great U.S. Senator.

Government’s broader unemployment measure still at 17%

Sent to you by Jay via Google Reader:

via RedState by Dan Spencer (Profile) on 11/6/10

The government reports that the unemployment rate remained stuck at 9.6 percent in October.

The government's broader measure of unemployment, sometimes referred to "true unemployment," is still at 17 percent. There was drop of 318,000 in the number of people employed part time but who would prefer full-time work. The drop resulted in a slight decrease in true unemployment from 17.1 to 17.0 percent.

The higher, more inclusive, unemployment number is buried in the government's monthly report as "U6 Total unemployed, plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force" in "Table A-15. Alternative measures of labor underutilization." Unlike the "official" unemployment rate, the U6 number includes both marginal and part-time workers as the "true" or "real" unemployment level.

As explained in the video available here the number of people underemployed is equivalent to:

  • The 50 largest U.S. companies (by number of employees) laying off all of their workers, hiring new workers, and then laying them off too.
  • More than all of the employees in the U.S. manufacturing and retail industries.
  • Everyone who currently has a job in these twenty-seven states: Alabama, S. Carolina, Kentucky, Connecticut, Oregon, Oklahoma, Iowa, Kansas, Utah, Arkansas, Nevada, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, W. Virginia, New Hampshire, Idaho, Maine, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, North Dakota, Alaska, Vermont, Wyoming.

As we said last month, this is once again a good time to recall President Obama's promises about his failed so-called stimulus boondoggle.
