Most people don’t remember Obamacare’s notorious Section 1233, which mandated government payments for end-of-life counseling. It aroused so much anxiety as a possible first slippery step on the road to state-mandated late-life rationing that the Senate never included it in the final health-care law.

Well, it’s back — by administrative fiat. A month ago, Medicare issued a regulation providing for end-of-life counseling during annual “wellness” visits. It was all nicely buried amid the simultaneous release of hundreds of new Medicare rules.

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D.,Ore.), author of Section 1233, was delighted. “Mr. Blumenauer’s office celebrated ‘a quiet victory,’ but urged supporters not to crow about it,” reports the New York Times. Deathly quiet. In early November, his office sent an e-mail plea to supporters: “We would ask that you not broadcast this accomplishment out to any of your lists . . . e-mails can too easily be forwarded.” They had been lucky that “thus far, it seems that no press or blogs have discovered it. . . . The longer this regulation goes unnoticed, the better our chances of keeping it.”

The face of Rosie was one Geraldine Hoff Doyle of Lansing, Michigan, who passed away at the age of 86. From the Lansing State Journal:

...Doyle was 86 upon her death, a lifetime older than the 17-year-old factory worker who was captured in a United Press International photo in a metal-pressing plant near Ann Arbor.

Her photo was later used by the U.S. War Production Coordinating Committee in an illustrated poster called, 'We Can Do It!'

The poster was designed to encourage other women to enter the workforce in support of the war effort but has grown to become a pop-culture icon of women's equality.

'She was very inspirational,' said her daughter, Stephanie Gregg of Eaton Rapids, assistant dean of admissions for Cooley Law School. 'She was very kind and generous. She lived the 'We Can Do It!' life every day.'

More than 6 million women would eventually heed the poster's call, entering the workforce in droves during the war. Nearly half found factory jobs previously reserved for men to churn out bombers, tanks, guns and ammunition.

After the war, Doyle's famous image became a lasting emblem, said Gladys Beckwith, former director of the Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame, which honored Doyle in 2002.

...Ironically, Doyle herself didn't know until 1984 that she had a famous face - not until she was flipping through an issue of 'Modern Maturity' magazine and saw a reproduction of the poster.

'She said, 'This is me!,' ' recalled Gregg.

Doyle recounted the story later for a 2002 article in the Lansing State Journal.

She had never noticed the poster before, she said, because she was too busy living her life.

'I was changing diapers all the time,' she said in 2002.

Doyle married her husband, Leo Doyle, in 1943 at the age of 18.

Together they had six children and ran a successful dental practice in Lansing.

'My dad died Feb. 28,' Gregg said. 'My mom said, 'I don't know how I'll live without him.' '

BRITAIN’S winter is the coldest since 1683 and close to being the chilliest in nearly 1,000 years.

Latest figures reveal that the average temperature since December 1 has been a perishing -1C.

That makes it the second coldest since records began in 1659.

The chilliest on record was 1683/84, when the average was -1.17C and the River Thames froze over for two months.

But with January and February to come, experts believe we could suffer the most freezing cold winter in the last 1,000 years.

Somewhere out there, Jesus is laughing.

Barack Obama today released a statement following the Islamic terrorist attacks targeting Christians in Egypt and innocents in Nigeria.

The President would not blame “Islamic” radicals in his statement and said Muslims were also victims.

Here is the White House statement condemning the attacks.

I strongly condemn the separate and outrageous terrorist bombing attacks in Egypt and Nigeria. The attack on a church in Alexandria, Egypt caused 21 reported deaths and dozens of injured from both the Christian and Muslim communities. The perpetrators of this attack were clearly targeting Christian worshipers, and have no respect for human life and dignity. They must be brought to justice for this barbaric and heinous act. We are continuing to gather information regarding this terrible event, and are prepared to offer any necessary assistance to the Government of Egypt in responding to it.

The attack near an army barracks in Abuja also reportedly killed more than 20 people and wounded many more. Killing innocent civilians who were simply gathering – like so many people around the world – to celebrate the beginning of a New Year further demonstrates the bankrupt vision of those who carry out these attacks, and we are similarly prepared to offer assistance to the Government of Nigeria as it works to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The United States extends its deepest condolences to the families of those killed and to the wounded in both of these attacks, and we stand with the Nigerian and Egyptian people at this difficult time.

You can’t win a war when you don’t know who you’re fighting.

21 Christians were murdered last night when a car bomb exploded as they were leaving New Year’s Mass.

Barack Obama released a statement today claimed the victims were both Christian and Muslim.

From the White House:

The attack on a church in Alexandria, Egypt caused 21 reported deaths and dozens of injured from both the Christian and Muslim communities.

Not true.

All 21 of the victims in the attack were Christian. No Muslims died in the attack.

Catholic Online reported:

The explosion, during the first hour of the New Year, left 21 dead, 79 injured and questions about possible involvement of al-Qaida. All but eight of the injured and all the fatalities were Christians from Saints Church, located on the eastern side of the coastal city.

He’s afraid to say Islamic extremism.

Now he’s making up Muslim victims too.

“Extremists” decapitated a Stalin statue in Ukraine on Wednesday.

Last night they blew it up.

Local communists are outraged.



The communists unveiled the statue in may.

The AFP reported:

Extremists blew up a controversial monument to Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin on New Year’s night in southeastern Ukraine in an “act of terror”, the local Communist Party said on Saturday.

The bust in the city of Zaporizhia, unveiled this May, caused a heated controversy in Ukraine which is still split between its nationalist west and the more Russian orientated east which fondly remembers the Soviet past.

“A criminal broke into the grounds of the Communist Party regional headquarters, and laid an explosive charge which detonated after a few minutes,” the Communist Party said.

“The statue of Stalin was destroyed as a result of the blast,” the Communists said in a statement. It said that the explosion inflicted serious damage on the building but there were no casualties.

The explosion took place at 10:40 pm (2040 GMT) on New Year’s Eve, it said.

Stalin murdered over 7,000,000 Ukrainians in his terror famine or Holodomor in 1932-1933.
