War on cupcakes: A child nutrition bill on its way to Obama gives the government power to limit school bake sales

War on cupcakes: A child nutrition bill on its way to Obama gives the government power to limit school bake sales: "Good freaking grief. Our ruling class can't prosecute a war against terrorists trying to murder us all, but they're doing wonderfully on the war against cupcakes. At the same time they are disarming our soldiers in war zones, they are arming the food police by legislative fiat. From the AP via memeorandum: Hold the brownies! Bill could limit bake sales
A child nutrition bill on its way to President Barack Obama — and championed by the first lady — gives the government power to limit school bake sales and other fundraisers that health advocates say sometimes replace wholesome meals in the lunchroom.

...'This could be a real train wreck for school districts,' Lucy Gettman of the National School Boards Association said Friday, a day after the House cleared the bill. 'The federal government should not be in the business of regulating this kind of activity at the local level.'
They shouldn't be into this kind of activity at all because there's this really cool document called the US Constitution, and if you flip to Article 1 Section 8 you will find 17 powers enumerated to the US Congress. What's in this bill isn't one of them.
...The language is broad enough that a president's administration could even ban bake sales, but Secretary Tom Vilsack signaled in a letter to House Education and Labor Committee Chairman George Miller, D-Calif., this week that he does not intend to do that.
Of course he doesn't intend to do it. But he'll do it anyway. Later. After the news cycle passes this by. Margo Wootan of the Center for Science in the Public Interestis quoted as as saying that the banning of 'junk food' will increase parental choice. Let me repeat that. Banning foods will increase choice. Chew on that for a while. More from Right Wing News, Weasel Zippers and Doug Ross. Exit question: if school are seen breaking the rules, will idiot bureaucrats call the police on them? (Nanny State: City official calls police on children selling cupcakes without a license)
