You go to a doctor, he screws up your surgery. Do you let that doctor fix his screw up? If not, how do you trust people that can't regulate their own finances to fix a more than a $350 million deficit in a city known to be a cesspool of corruption and ineptitude? Apparently, voters in Detroit have no problem with hack surgeons fixing their screw ups. Two were elected to the city council last November:
- Charles Pugh is now the City Council President since he was the top vote-getter. Pugh is a homosexual and gay activist that campaigned in so-called churches (Detroit Democrats Campaigning In Churches; Support Separation Of Church And State, Except When They Don't) and foreclosed on his condo (Change not allowed! Detroit council candidates face foreclosures, debts). And he's supposed to fix a City budget $350+ million in the hole?
- Kwame Kenyatta, elected in 2005, walked away from his home on Bretton after defaulting on his mortgage. (Detroit councilman Kwame Kenyatta sending "jingle mail") And he's supposed to fix a City budget $350+ million in the hole?
How is it that she can't afford a $160,000 condo on her $81,000 salary? And how is she going to fix Detroit's debt problem when she can't fix her own? And don't for a minute think that these 3 City Council members are the only ones with problems. These are just the foreclosures. As I wrote back last November: New Detroit City Council Members Have Financial Problems, Debt, Tax Evasion Record. That includes these:Jenkins acknowledged she's facing financial problems. She said she explored a short-sale, concluded it wasn't viable and will probably walk away and lose the condo. It's due to be sold Sept. 29.
Just because I can't balance my checkbook doesn't mean I can't balance Detroit's
- JoAnn Watson is a property tax evader. (Detroit City Councilwoman JoAnn Watson To Get Away With Evading Property Taxes) Right after she started working for John Conyers, her property taxes dropped from around $5,000 to $68 as her property was reclassified as a vacant lot. She blames a tornado that somehow damaged her house (damage she never reported) but none of her neighbors. A fluke of nature? Nope. Just plain vanilla tax evasion. How is it that Watson spearheaded an effort to go after taxpayers who skirt their property taxes? How responsible is it to allow this tax cheat to have any say of Detroit's finances?
- Brenda Jones and Ken Cockrel Jr have already been serving on a Council that has run Detroit into the ground.
