Mohamed Elibiary was one of the speakers at a December 2004 conference in Dallas entitled "A Tribute to the Great Islamic Visionary," Ayatollah Khomeini. When Rod Dreher of the Dallas Morning News called him on this, he threatened Dreher, telling him: "Expect someone to put a banana in your exhaust pipe."

Mohamed Elibiary is the President and CEO of the Freedom and Justice Foundation, and has advised numerous federal, state and local law enforcement organizations including the Texas Department of Safety and National Counterterrorism Center Global Engagement Group on matters relating to homeland security. Recently, Elibiary served on DHS's Homeland Security Advisory Council Countering Violent Extremism Working Group, and currently serves on the Texas Department of Public Safety Advisory Board. In December of 2009 he helped establish the Texas Fusion Center Policy Council to enhance information sharing, analytical capabilities and community relations at the state and local law enforcement levels.

Analysis: ‘Paycheck Fairness Act’ will put small businesses out of business

Here's the opening volley:

President Obama has called for immediate passage of the Paycheck Fairness Act, and on Sept. 28, the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee held a hearing at which proponents continued the push for its passage. Despite its appealing title, the Paycheck Fairness Act is anything but fair. Gender pay discrimination has been outlawed for almost 50 years with the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. If passed, the legislation would eliminate common-sense defenses now available to employers in pay discrimination claims while bankrolling the well-funded trial bar. Although ostensibly aimed at narrowing the gender pay gap, the act ignores market realities and threatens to put well-intentioned employers out of business and eliminate countless jobs. Worse yet, there is simply no credible evidence that systemic workplace discrimination is taking place or that employers are to blame.

Treasury Department: Obama Has Grown National Debt FASTER Than Any Time in History

The Progressive Democrats enjoy blaming the national debt on President Bush, and it is true our debt grew much too much during the Bush administration, but the fact is during the twenty-one months that Barack Obama has been President our national debt grew faster than any time in our history.

It took from 1776, when the United States became an independent country, until 1990, the year after the Berlin Wall fell signaling victory in the Cold War, for the federal government to accumulate a total of $3 trillion in debt, according to the Treasury Department. It only took from Jan. 20, 2009, the day President Barack Obama was inaugurated, until Oct. 15, 2010, for the Obama administration to add $3 trillion to the federal debt.

Each business day, in the afternoon, the Treasury Department's Bureau of the Public Debt publishes the exact amount—to the penny--of total federal debt as of the close of the previous business day. During the Bush administration the pace of US debt growth was much slower.In just 21 months the Obama administration added a grand total of $3,039,049,594,342.88 to our debt, Bush reached that total in February 2007, 73 months into his presidency, despite the two full scale wars begun early in his Administration. The Clinton Administration only increased debt by 1.5 trillion.

At the close of business on Jan. 20, 2009, according to the bureau, the total debt of the federal government was $10,626,877,048,913.08. On Oct. 15, 2010, the federal government borrowed an additional $58,979,549,154.06, bringing the total federal debt at the close of Friday's business day to $13,665,926,643,255.96—an increase of $3,039,049,594,342.88 since President Obama's inauguration.

These are numbers released by Obama's own treasury department. 

During the eight years of the Bush presidency our national debt grew by $4.9 trillion dollars ($4,901,104,747,205.56) a rate much too high to sustain the long term viability of our economy.  President Obama has accelerated our pace to ruin, passing the $3 trillion mark in only 21 months and if his spending stays on the same pace, he will pass Bush's too large of a deficit in November of 2011 less than three years into his Presidency.

Islamic jihadists shouting "Allahu akbar" storm Chechen Parliament, murdering at least three

Will the Islamophobia never end? "Chechnya parliament attacked: Islamic suicide bombers, gunman assault government building," by Michael Sheridan for the New York Daily News, October 19 (thanks to all who sent this in):

Islamic rebels crying out "Allahu Akbar" stormed the parliament building in war-torn Chechnya on Tuesday, killing at least three people.

The militants, who have been fighting the Russian-controlled government since the 1990s, used a suicide bomber to blast open the gates then flooded into the building firing weapons that injured more than a dozen people.

The assault was mounted by three men while politicians and government employees arrived for work, according to Reuters.

Strapped with a bomb, one of the three blew himself up giving the others access to the parliament, and wounding several people.

The two remaining gunmen entered the building screaming in Arabic, "God is Great!" The terrorists opened fire, and according to The Associated Press, at least two police officers were killed, along with one parliamentary official....

Morning Bell: The Left Still Doesn’t Get Poverty

'Culture of Poverty' Makes a Comeback reads the headline from this past Sunday's New York Times. Patricia Cohen goes on to report: "[I]n the overwhelmingly liberal ranks of academic sociology and anthropology the word 'culture' became a live grenade, and the idea that attitudes and behavior patterns kept people poor was shunned. Now, after decades of silence, these scholars are speaking openly about you-know-what, conceding that culture and persistent poverty are enmeshed."

At first, this may seem like the left is finally ready to make a major concession to reality about their decades-long War on Poverty. But a closer reading of Cohen's source materials, a recent symposium on poverty in The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, shows the opposite is true. The left is just as clueless about poverty as it has ever been. Heritage Foundation Senior Research Fellow in Domestic Policy Studies Robert Rector writes at National Review Online:

One might imagine that experts researching the "culture of poverty" would examine how marital collapse, eroded work ethic, and indifference to academic study contribute to financial poverty. Guess again.

Instead, editors of The Annals firmly declare that the main cause of poverty is "material deprivation itself." In other words, the cause of poverty is poverty: The cure for poverty is to artificially boost the incomes of the poor through welfare payments, free food, housing, medical care, and so on.

This is nothing new. Liberals always have insisted that poverty causes dysfunctional behaviors rather than vice versa. But, if having a low income caused problem behaviors (such as illegitimate births and eroded work ethic), then most Americans in the 19th and early 20th centuries (whose incomes were far lower than those of today's poor) should have been drowning in dysfunctional behaviors. Of course, they were not.

As Rector has amply documented before, the left's continued blindness to the cultural underpinnings of poverty have undermined civil society and bloated our federal budget. Since 1964, the U.S. has spent $15.9 trillion on means-tested welfare programs. After adjusting for inflation, welfare spending is 13 times higher today than it was in 1965. Welfare spending has grown more rapidly than Social Security, Medicare, education, and defense. And what do we have to show for these efforts? According to the Census Bureau, a record high 3.7 million Americans fell into poverty in 2009. The out-of-wedlock birthrate is now 40% and the African American out-of-wedlock birthrate is 72%. When the War on Poverty began the out-of-wedlock birthrate was just 7%.

The collapse of marriage is the root cause of child poverty in the U.S. today. It is far past time to reboot our poverty programs to promote work and encourage marriage in order to control costs and promote greater self-reliance. Among Rector's recommendations:

• Slowing the growth of the welfare state: Congress needs to establish reasonable fiscal constraints within the welfare system. Once the current recession ends, aggregate welfare spending should be rolled back to pre-recession levels. After this rollback has been completed, the growth of welfare spending should be capped at the rate of inflation.
• Promoting personal responsibility and work: Able-bodied welfare recipients should be required to work or to prepare for work as a condition of receiving aid. Food stamps and housing assistance, two of the largest programs for the needy, should be aligned with the TANF program to require able-bodied adults to work or to prepare for work for a minimum of 30 hours per week.
• Ending the welfare marriage penalty and encouraging marriage in low-income communities: Current means-tested welfare programs penalize low-income recipients who get married; these anti-marriage penalties should be reduced or eliminated.

During the administration of President Bill Clinton, conservatives successfully reformed one welfare program in the 1990s: replacing the old Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) with the new Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF). But President Barack Obama's failed economic stimulus gutted those reforms. And his budget proposal would spend $10.3 trillion on means-tested welfare over the next decade. Before the current rise in poverty, that was enough to give $250,000 to each person currently living in poverty in the U.S., or $1 million for a poor family of four. Our nation can't afford another 10 years of failed War on Poverty thinking.
