LA Gov Bobby Jindal: “We used to pay farmers not to grow crops, let's pay congressmen to stay out of Washington”: "Actually, they still pay farmers - the big farming conglomerates, not mom and pop farms - not to grow crops, but anyway. “We used to pay farmers not to grow crops, let's pay congressmen to stay out of Washington, D.C.,” Jindal said in an interview with Human Events. “Mark Twain said that our liberty, our wallets were safest when the legislature's not in session.”

Jindal, himself a former congressman, said once elected, many lawmakers become entrenched in Washington and become the very people they once campaigned against.

“Make them part-time, give them term limits,” Jindal said. “Don’t let them become lobbyists. When they have to live under the same rules and laws they pass for the rest of us, maybe you’d see some more common sense coming out of Washington, D.C.”

As the system works today, he said, “you’ve got a permanent governing political class.

In actuality, Congress is part-time. They are constitutionally required to convene only a handful of times each session. Article 1, Section 4 of the US Constitution reads in part:

The Congress shall assemble at least once in every Year...

But the constitution doesn't cap how many times they do meet, and thus the ruling class is satisfied with tormenting us constantly. Here's the Jindal interview over at Human Events:
