Obama Lied on Health Care, U.S. Department of Labor rule shows

By Rick Manning

We all remember the Obama promise. The promise that, "if you like your health plan you can keep it," promising that nothing in the health reform law would force businesses or consumers to change health plans or change their doctor.

Now that the bill is passed and the regulators are busily spinning out the estimated 20,000 pages of rules that will accompany the law, one thing is becoming crystal clear – Obama lied.
Who says?

The U.S. Department of Labor, which is charged with responsibility for overseeing the health plans that private business provides its employees across the nation, reports in an Interim Final rule that 69 percent of all health plans that cover workers will not be grandfathered into the plan as early as 2013.

This simply means that up to 69 percent of the workers who have employer provided health coverage are going to be forced to change health plans and depending upon the plan, change their doctor within three years.

If you work for a small business, the Department of Labor says it will even be worse with up to 80 percent of the small business health plans going the way of the dodo.

So, you will be able to keep your health plan if you like it, so long as it is one of the 31 percent that mold themselves to the Obama appointee vision of what a health plan should look like.

In a related matter, Obama and his health care allies repeatedly assured a skeptical public that cost would not be a factor in the federal government's health care decision making process. Now, just months after the ink on the law is dry, the Washington Post reports that Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials are considering rescinding approval of the extremely expensive breast cancer treating drug Avastin due to questions on whether its benefits are worth the cost.

This is significant because Avastin is the last best hope for more than 17,000 women who are literally battling for their lives with end stages of breast cancer. Dr. Eric P. Winer, director of the Breast Oncology Center at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston who also serves as the Susan G. Komen for the Cure's Chief Scientific Officer is quoted in the Post as saying, "This is not a worthless drug by any means. There is almost certainly a group of women who get a big benefit."

Should the FDA rescind approval of the drug as being beneficial to breast cancer patients, private insurers which rely on the FDA to determine which medicines to cover for different ailments will undoubtedly follow suit, leaving 17,000 women without coverage for the medicine that is their last hope of survival.

In case anyone believes that this cost cutting is targeting only women, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) has announced a review of whether to cover an innovative and expensive late stage prostate cancer treatment called Provenge, drawing the ire of oncology associations and patients alike. If CMS decides not to cover Provenge, it will mark the first time an FDA-approved therapy is not to be covered by Medicare.

As cost-based health decisions, and the forced change of health care plans begin to dominate the health care discussion, the realities of ObamaCare are beginning to take hold. It is a brave new world, where the sickest and weakest among us are deemed expendable by government decision makers because it is just too expensive to pay to give them the medicines that just might keep them alive.

Who knows? Maybe even the death panel scoffers will finally admit that when a government, rather than a doctor and patient, makes choices on medicines and their efficacy at extending quality of life, it becomes an impersonal, callous, business decision, and people are going to die after having their last hopes stripped away.

Somehow to those fighting for their lives, hospice and palliative care must seem an extremely poor substitute for life giving, but expensive medicines, even if the Donald Berwick's of the world can't understand it.

Huh?… Obama Says His Father Served in World War II??? (Video)

That's weird.
His 'official father' was a 10 year old Kenyan at the end of WWII.
Who's he talking about?

John Bolton is Wrong-Israel Does Not Have to Attack Iran This Week

John Bolton is banging the drums of war in the name of Israel. said today on Fox News, that the moment Russia starts loading the nuclear fuel into a Iranian reactor scheduled for August 21, Israel's window of opportunity to attack the Iranian weapons program closes.
"Once it's close to the reactor ... the risk is when the reactor is attacked, there will be a release of radiation into the air," Bolton told FoxNews.com. "It's most unlikely that they would act militarily after fuel rods are loaded."

Earlier Tuesday, Bolton told Fox Business Network the Israelis will have to move in the "next eight days" if they want to attack the Bushehr facility -- a reference to the window between when the start-up was announced last week and the loading date. Bolton said Tuesday that the date has fluctuated, but he described the start-up as the ultimate deadline.
"What this does is give Iran a second route to nuclear weapons in addition to enriched uranium," Bolton said. "It's a very, very huge victory for Iran."
The only problem with Bolton's analysis is that it is wrong, it does not close the window to an attack. First of all if Israel were to attack within the next four days there would be no element of surprise hurting the chance of the actions success.  Israel always says the same thing when it comes to dealing with threats, "We will handle it at a time of our choosing." Israel will not attack until they feel that there is an imminent threat of Iran gaining a nuclear weapon and when Israel feels that its military abilities are at its highest.

The Bushehr reactor would probably be a tertiary target at best, they would probably go after where the nuclear fuel is refined, the  uranium-enrichment facility at Natanz, the formerly secret enrichment site at Qom, after that would be the "brain center" of the Iranian operations, the nuclear-research center at Esfahan,

How am I so sure that Israel does not believe that time is now? There is too much noise, the Bolton push comes right after much discussed Jeffry Goldberg article claiming that Israel is nearing the point of no return about Iranian nuclear weapons (he says it will happen before next spring).

Israel just doesn't work that way, they do not announce their intentions in the press, or to former UN Ambassadors.

It doesn't broadcast or leak operations like this before they happen. The attack on Iran's nuclear plant in 1981 was a total surprise, so was the destruction of the North Korean reactor in the middle of the Syrian desert.  Heck when the reactor in Syria was destroyed it took a year to figure out what was destroyed and how it happened.

The more you see news reports starting that "sources say" or claims such as Israel's window is about to close, the less likely that something is going to happen soon. Also don't believe reports about Israel "asking the US for permission."  When your very existence is in jeopardy, it is much easier to say you are sorry than asking for permission. If Israel attacks Iran's nuclear program it will be doing so at a time of its own choosing, and she won't be announcing it four days before it's planned to happen in the media.

Great: Obama used taxpayer money to conduct propaganda campaigns for his own agenda

Really - should anyone be shocked by this? On the plus side, if Republicans gain control of the House and/or Senate, this will be fully investigated. From Ed Morrissey via memeorandum:
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, will release a report today that claims that the Obama administration has created propaganda using federal funds to promote the agenda of Barack Obama and the Democrats.  The charges would violate laws intended to separate politics from governance, which if substantiated would create a big problem for President Obama — assuming Congress wants to take this up as an issue.  The report's summary lays out the charges clearly:
Since the beginning of the Obama Administration on January 20, 2009, ordinary Americans have financed and been exposed to an unprecedented number of public relations and propaganda efforts. Federal spending for public relations contracts rose to historically-high levels during the Bush Administration. Under one-party rule in 2009, the White House used the machinery of the Obama campaign to tout the President's agenda through inappropriate and sometimes unlawful public relations and propaganda initiatives. Congress buoyed the Administration's propaganda efforts by increasing federal spending on public relations for the first time since 2005.
The Obama Administration frequently used federal resources to promote the President's agenda. In many cases, the Administration relied on the reach and resources of federal agencies and their personnel to promote certain of the President's favorite programs. The White House also leveraged ties to the arts and entertainment community to embed propaganda in the content of television programming and artwork. These propaganda efforts violated appropriations riders and federal law prohibiting the use of appropriated funds for publicity or propaganda purposes.
The White House also used its inherent visibility advantages to multiply the effectiveness of websites containing misleading and controversial information. The White House used its resources to push visitors to websites that urge grassroots activism based on false and misleading information. The President's right to sell his policy recommendations to Congress and the public is not disputed; however, using the resources of the federal government to activate a sophisticated propaganda and lobbying campaign is an abuse of office and a betrayal of the President's pledge to create "an unprecedented level of openness in Government."
Instead of facilitating openness, the public relations and propaganda activities of the White House have had precisely the opposite effect. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has historically deemed activities involving "covert propaganda" to be unlawful. In those cases, the source of the public relations or propaganda materials did not disclose his or her identity as a federal employee or contractor. Many of the Obama Administration's propaganda activities are unlawful because they are covert. Furthermore, several programs closely resemble those decried by Democrats and ruled unlawful by GAO during the Bush Administration.
This report examines several of the most visible public relations and propaganda efforts during the first year of the Obama Administration. Viewed collectively, these activities reveal an Administration better suited to campaign-style self-promotion than to providing transparent and honest leadership.
Issa's report looks at past propaganda from Republican and Democratic administrations, including those of Ronald Reagan, FDR, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, and concludes that the scope of Obama's efforts far outstrip anything seen in modern administrations. ...
There's a whole lot more at the link. Also, PJM has this: Darrell Issa Blasts the Propaganda Presidency, Accuses Administration of Abuse of Office
One of the more shocking abuses listed in the report is the Department of Justice's hiring of a liberal blogger, apparently with the express intention of attacking conservative bloggers.
There's a whole lot more at that link too. It's almost as if we are being ruled by a regime with an unlimited piggy bank, rather than an administration. More from The Daily Caller, Nice Deb and Dan Riehl

White House Directive: Erect Signs at All Stimulus Projects as 'Symbol of President Obama's Commitment to American People'
(CNSNews.com)
- Federal contractors receiving money for projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act )—the $862 billion economic stimulus law President Barack Obama signed in February 2009—have been encouraged and, in some cases, required by the administration to post signs that say their work is funded by that specific act, a measure some congressional Republicans are calling propaganda for the administration. The law itself does not require the signs. The program sprang from a March 2009 directive issued by the Office of Management and Budget in the Obama White House.

But critics of the plan call casinos "predatory" businesses, and they say opening a casino near Gettysburg is a "national disgrace" that dishonors fallen Civil War soldiers.

Don't Expect Us to Stop Enriching Uranium Once Russian-Built Reactor is Online, Say Iranian Officials
(CNSNews.com)
– Iran's plan to fire up its first nuclear power reactor will not affect its ongoing uranium enrichment activities, despite Western governments' arguments that the power plant's operating arrangements will render enrichment unnecessary. But Iran says it needs to produce nuclear fuel to feed addition nuclear reactors that it plans to build in the future.

EXCLUSIVE: Arizona Sheriff: Border Patrol Has Retreated from Parts of Border Because It's 'Too Dangerous'
(CNSNews.com)
- Sheriff Larry Dever of Cochise County, Ariz., one of four Arizona counties contiguous with the U.S-Mexico border, said Friday that the U.S. Border Patrol has pulled back from parts of the border in his and neighboring counties because manning those areas has become too dangerous. "And you frankly have Border Patrolmen--and I know this from talking to Border Patrol agents—who will not allow their agents to work on the border because it is too dangerous," Dever told CNSNews.com in a videotaped interview. "Now what kind of message is that for crying out loud?"

COMMENTARY

The Clueless Professor Obama
By Patrick J. Buchanan
With the president's intervention, the issue of whether a mosque should be built two blocks from Ground Zero has metastasized into a major clash in America's religious and culture war. Have we ever had a president so disconnected from the heart of America? This is not a question of "Can they build a mosque near Ground Zero?" A decent respect for the opinions of one's fellow Americans would seem to shout out: Put the mosque somewhere else.

Go to the Back of the CLASS
By Ed Feulner
The CLASS Act was a little-noticed part of the massive Obamacare bill that the president signed in March. It's supposed to provide affordable long-term care insurance to American workers. In reality, it creates another entitlement likely to increase our exploding federal deficit. But the program hasn't take effect yet, so there's still time for lawmakers to fix their mistake and repeal the CLASS Act.

Solutions for America

Last night at the Beverly Hills home of  "West Wing" producer John Wells, after the string quartet quieted down, President Barack Obama told the assembled Hollywood elite, who paid $2,500 a person for cocktails and $30,400 a couple for dinner: "We have been able to deliver the most progressive legislative agenda - one that helps working families - not just in one generation, maybe two, maybe three." Half an hour later, after the President concluded "Even as the other side wants to offer fear, we're going to offer hope," the Beverly Hills crowd responded with loud applause.

But as much as the decadent Hollywood left may love Obama's progressive agenda, the American people have soundly rejected it. Yesterday, for the first time in his Presidency, the Gallup daily tracking poll found that a majority of Americans disapprove of the job Obama is doing as President. Even worse for him, last week Gallup found that a majority of Americans disapprove of the President's policies on eight out of thirteen issues. And according to the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll 58% of Americans believe our country is on the wrong track.

There is little wonder as to why. Since 2000, federal spending has grown across the board. Discretionary spending has expanded 79 percent faster than inflation. The federal government now spends $30,543 per household compared to $21,875 per household in 2000. Under President Obama's budget, Washington is projected to spend $3,618 billion, raise $2,118 billion, and run a $1.5 trillion deficit in 2010. By 2020 President Obama's budget would double the publicly held national debt.

On every issue, the left has only two answers: more federal spending and more federal control. Conservatives have not, and should not, shy away from opposing these policies. But conservatives also must offer an alternative vision of America's future; one that is consistent with our nation's founding principles and empowers the people to compete in the 21st century. Today, The Heritage Foundation is releasing just such an alternative: "Solutions for America"
