Black Farmer, USDA Employees Prepared to Testify About Fraud in USDA Settlement, Lawmakers Say

An FBI agent also is prepared to testify that he knows of numerous cases where evidence of fraudulent claims was not pursued. The agent believes at least 50 percent of the black farmers' claims were fraudulent.

These are just two of the seven unnamed witnesses in what Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) describes as a growing list of those who may be asked to testify if the next Congress holds hearings into the settlements between the government and black farmers. The list was provided by the office of Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn), who has joined King in calls for a congressional investigation.

Both Bachmann and King said it is necessary for the witnesses to be unnamed at this point to protect them from retaliation or intimidation prior to a congressional hearing.

Five of the witnesses are USDA employees who said they were aware of fraudulent claims.
