Congress Must Keep Its Promises Dear Jay, This morning, Americans are waking up to a new political reality. Yesterday's election marked a monumental step in our country's conservative realignment. Not only did conservatives battle and beat the establishment during the primaries, they did it in the general election, too. With victories over liberals, conservatives showed up and sent a resounding message – it is time to return our government to its limited constitutional purpose. Pundits and those in the establishment are framing the results as a Republican resurgence but that misses the point. The story of the 2010 election is your story – a conservative mandate. Thousands of principled conservatives ran for office and received the support of millions of conservatives like you. Americans are demanding principled conservative leadership. Now it's up to the newly elected Members of Congress to deliver. That's where Heritage Action enters the picture. We exist to hold Members of Congress accountable to the conservative mandate. In order to fulfill that mandate, the new Congress must cut spending, repeal Obamacare, block the Obama tax hikes, protect America and get control over the unaccountable bureaucracy. Conservative activists like you will need to remain engaged to make these goals a reality. Your activism cannot end now that the elections are over. Now, we must fight to translate conservative election gains into conservative policy victories in Washington. The establishment will fight back. So will the liberals.
