Ford Motor Co. led Detroit's Big Three in double-digit sales jumps in November, posting a 24 percent spike in new vehicle sales over the same month a year ago.Ford's increase is almost the same as Chrysler and GM - combined. But that part doesn't make the headlines. Nor the SUV and truck angle. Buried in the DetNews piece is this:
Chrysler Group, LLC was right behind the Dearborn automaker, with its sales up 17 percent. Crosstown rival General Motors Co. saw its November sales rise 11.4 percent, thanks to sales of new crossovers, the Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX .
...sport utility vehicles were up 13 percent and trucks up 34 percent. Sales for Ford's midsize crossovers — the 2011 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX — bolstered the sales increase in SUVs. Ford's F-Series trucks were up 26 percent. If you build them (big), they will come...
...Sales for Chrysler's Jeep brand were up 58 percent for November compared to a year ago, with its all-new Grand Cherokee providing a dramatic lift. Grand Cherokee sales rose 256 percent, on top of a huge increase in October for the SUV, which arrived in dealerships in the summer.
The Ram truck brand saw sales jump of 67 percent.
