WASHINGTON (AP) — A House committee wants the Homeland Security Department to provide documents about a policy requiring political appointees to review many Freedom of Information Act requests before releasing them.

The request for e-mails and other documents is in a letter obtained Sunday by The Associated Press.

The request comes from the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Republican congressman Darrell Issa of California. It is one of the earliest moves by House Republicans who have vowed to launch numerous probes of President Barack Obama’s administration.

The Freedom of Information Act is supposed to ensure the quick public release of government documents without political consideration.

Oversight panel spokesman Frederick Hill says that documents the panel already has received seem inconsistent with comments by Homeland Security officials.

He became intrigued by antigovernment conspiracy theories, including that the Sept. 11 attacks were perpetrated by the government and that the country’s central banking system was enslaving its citizens. His anger would well up at the sight of President George W. Bush, or in discussing what he considered to be the nefarious designs of government.

And, yet the horrible leftists in the media plotted to blame this slaughter on the tea party and Sarah Palin?

What awful people.

The Tucson killer is an anti-Christian, anti-Constitution, left-wing, pro-Marx, antiflag, “quite liberal” lunatic who hated Bush. He had been targeting Rep. Gabrielle Giffords since 2007.

Officials are blaming the turmoil in Tunisia on revelations from the leaked Wikileaks documents.

Of course, the Obama Administration did nothing to prevent the greatest mass leak of security documents in US history.

FOX News reported:

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Sunday urged Tunisia’s new leadership to restore order and adopt broad economic and political reforms in the wake of the popular revolt that overthrew the North African nation’s authoritarian president.

At the same time, the State Department rejected claims that revelations of rampant corruption in leaked U.S. diplomatic documents had sparked the uprising.

In a phone call to Tunisian Foreign Minister Kamal Merjan, Clinton offered U.S. support for Tunisia as it transitions from the autocratic rule of ex-President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. Clinton called for the government to address the underlying causes of the popular discontent that fueled the uprising, such as unemployment and poverty.

“She urged that the government work to re-establish order in the country in a responsible manner as quickly as possible,” the State Department said in a statement released as looting and violence continued to rock Tunisia in the aftermath of Ben Ali’s ouster on Friday. “She also underscored the importance of addressing popular concerns about the lack of civil liberties and economic opportunities, and the need to move forward with credible democratic elections.”

Clinton said she was encouraged by remarks by Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi and interim President Fouad Mebazaa “indicating a willingness to work with Tunisians across the political spectrum and within civil society to build a truly representative government.”

When the Republican House leadership decided to start the 112th Congress with a reading of the U.S. Constitution, the decision raised complaints in some quarters that it was little more than a political stunt. The New York Times even called it a 'presumptuous and self-righteous act.'

That might be true, if you could be sure that elected officials actually know something about the Constitution. But it turns out that many don't.

In fact, elected officials tend to know even less about key provisions of the Constitution than the general public.


...Elected officials at many levels of government, not just the federal government, swear an oath to 'uphold and protect' the U.S. Constitution.

But those elected officials who took the test scored an average 5 percentage points lower than the national average (49 percent vs. 54 percent), with ordinary citizens outscoring these elected officials on each constitutional question.

If that isn't bad enough, it get worse. A lot worse. Check out some of the very simple questions that our political ruling class flunked. What are the 3 branches of government?

A. executive, legislative, judicial
B. executive, legislative, military
C. bureaucratic, military, industry
D. federal, state, local

Only 49 percent of elected officials got it right. 49 PERCENT! Which means more than 50% believe that either the military is a branch or industry is. Or they get it completely wrong by answering 'D.' What question did the ruling class get score the worst on? This one:

How did the ruling class score. 19%. NINETEEN PERCENT!!! These morons have actually bought hook, line and sinker that the separation of church and state is a constitutional principle. It's not. Never was either. It appeared in a Jefferson letter and was taken out of context as to what it was really saying. It has been used by activist judges to quash the freedom of religion. But I digress.
