LOVE IT… House Votes to Repeal “Job-Killing” Health Care Law 236-181

LOVE IT… House Votes to Repeal “Job-Killing” Health Care Law 236-181: "

It was a bi-partisan vote by the way…

4 Democrats joined with Republicans in a 236-181 vote.

The language:

“Providing for consideration of H.R. 2, to repeal the job-killing health care law and health care-related provisions in the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010; and providing for consideration of H.Res. 9, instructing certain committees to report legislation replacing the job-killing health care law”

Poor Minority Leader Pelosi already lost 4 of her blue dogs on the vote.

The Washington Times reported on the vote:

Confronting President Obama, the new Republican-led House took a first step Friday toward a symbolic vote to repeal his landmark health care overhaul law, which would provide coverage to more than 30 million Americans without health insurance.

But the 236-181 largely party-line vote is unlikely to amount to more than a political message, since Democrats who still run the Senate have promised to block efforts to scrap the law and Obama has veto power.

Once Again… Democrats were the “Party of No” on yet another popular vote.

More… Via Instapundit: In 2010, the Democrats passed ObamaCare by a 7 vote margin. In 2011, the Republicans passed the bill to repeal ObamaCare with a 55 vote margin.

Hah-Hah!… Sorry WaPo… Sorry NY-Slimes… CBO NOW SAYS Repealing Obamacare Will Save US $540 Billion

by Jim Hoft

Hah-Hah!… Sorry WaPo… Sorry NY-Slimes… CBO NOW SAYS Repealing Obamacare Will Save US $540 Billion: "

Sorry Crackpots…

This morning the far left was ranting on about how repealing Obamacare would actually cost taxpayers billions of dollars.

What nonsense.

Rep. Anthony Weiner was spreading the lie last night on Hannity. The Washington Post published the lie this morning and again later today. The New York Times wrote that Republicans are ignoring the CBO results.

Hah-Hah.

What rubbish.

Today, the CBO (given the right data points) released new results that show that repealing Obamacare will save US taxpayers at least $540 billion.

The American Spectator reported:

The Congressional Budget Office, in an email to Capitol Hill staffers obtained by the Spectator, has said that repealing the national health care law would reduce net spending by $540 billion in the ten year period from 2012 through 2021. That number represents the cost of the new provisions, minus Medicare cuts. Repealing the bill would also eliminate $770 billion in taxes. It’s the tax hikes in the health care law (along with the Medicare cuts) which accounts for the $230 billion in deficit reduction.

Of course, anyone who believes that covering 30 million more people with health insurance would save taxpayers money is a complete nutcase in the first place.

What fools.

Change!… Dems’ Identity Politics Are Working – Whites Flee Party in Droves

Change!… Dems’ Identity Politics Are Working – Whites Flee Party in Droves: "

More Hope and Change…

The democrats’ identity politics are working.

White voters are now fleeing the liberal party in droves.

The National Journal reported:

By any standard, white voters’ rejection of Democrats in November’s elections was daunting and even historic.

Fully 60 percent of whites nationwide backed Republican candidates for the House of Representatives; only 37 percent supported Democrats, according to the National Election Poll exit poll conducted by Edison Research. Not even in Republicans’ 1994 congressional landslide did they win that high a percentage of the white vote.

Moreover, those results may understate the extent of the white flight from the Democratic Party, according to a National Journal analysis of previously unpublished exit-poll data provided by Edison Research.

The new data show that white voters not only strongly preferred Republican House and Senate candidates but also registered deep disappointment with President Obama’s performance, hostility toward the cornerstones of the current Democratic agenda, and widespread skepticism about the expansive role for Washington embedded in the party’s priorities. On each of those questions, minority voters expressed almost exactly the opposite view from whites.

Much can change in two years—as Obama’s own post-2008 odyssey demonstrates. These results, however, could carry profound implications for 2012.

Nice work, Barack.

Paul Ryan: By 2012 GOP Needs to Show Voters a Difference Between “Debt Ruin” & “Exceptionalism” (Video): "

Dang, he’s good!

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) told Paul Gigot at The National Press Club this week that Republicans must offer the country a clear choice by 2012 between Obama’s “debt ruin” or “American exceptionalism.”

Freedom’s Lighthouse posted the video:

From the video: Rep. Paul Ryan in an interview with Paul Gigot at the National Press Club that Republicans must find a way to set before the nation by 2012 the stark choice between the path we are on – “Debt Ruin” – and the better way of “American Exceptionalism.” Ryan describes this choice as clearly and effectively as I have heard it done.

Morning Bell: Americans Are Fleeing Obama’s Crony Capitalist Economy

Today the Bureau of Labor and Statistics released its monthly jobs report showing that the U.S. economy added only 103,000 jobs this December. With the unemployment rate now at 9.4%, this marks the 20th month in a row that the unemployment has been over 9 percent, a post–World War II record. You are going to hear a lot of noise from the White House about how this drop from a 9.8% unemployment rate to 9.4% means the economy is in a strong recovery. This is false. The reality is that the only reason the unemployment rate dropped is because the U.S. labor force decreased by 434,000. More importantly 260,000 Americans dropped out of the labor force entirely. This means that the Obama economy is now driving Americans out of the labor force faster than it is bringing them.

This Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs tweeted out: "General Motors Co.'s sales were up 21 percent in 2010 for its four core brands." Which is some interesting spin. As The Truth About Cars points out, GM's retail market share for all of their brands actually fell a full 1.8 percent in 2010. So why is the President's closest communication aide doing PR for what is, supposedly, a privately owned car company?

Yes, the Obama Administration did sell off a majority stake of their ownership of GM this November (at a $10 billion loss to taxpayers), but that still leaves them owning about a 37 percent share in the company. In other words, our government is still part owner of a supposedly private car company. And that is not the only continuing link between bailed-out GM and the Obama Administration. The Obama czar who oversaw the GM bailout, Ron Bloom, was just named the new czar for all of manufacturing policy at the White House's National Economic Council (NEC). So we can expect to see continued favoritism for GM and its bailed-out brothers from the entire Obama Administration.

The manufacturing industry is not the only sector of the economy where the Administration has installed a bailout revolving door. Over just the last two months, the Obama White House has sent budget director Peter Orszag to Citibank ($306 billion bailout), taken in Gene Sperling as NEC director from Goldman Sachs (beneficiary of the $173 billion AIG bailout), and added former Fannie Mae ($135 billion bailout so far) lobbyist and JPMorgan ($12 billion bailout) executive Bill Daley as President Barack Obama's Chief of Staff. There is a phrase for an economy that is so dependent on close relationships between business people and government officials: crony capitalism. And it is strangling our economic recovery.

There is a better way. Instead of relying on bailouts, subsidies, tax loopholes, and regulations to pick and choose which politically connected firms succeed or fail, government should unleash entrepreneurs to create jobs through true free enterprise policies. Specifically, Congress should:

  • Rescind unspent stimulus funds;
  • Reform regulations—specifically repealing Section 404 of the Sarbanes–Oxley Act—to reduce unnecessary business costs;
  • Remove barriers to domestic energy production;
  • Suspend the job-killing Davis–Bacon Act and prohibit Project Labor Agreement requirements on federally funded construction projects;
  • Conclude the pending free trade agreements with Colombia and Panama, as well as the recently announced agreement with South Korea; and
  • Reduce taxes on foreign earnings to encourage companies to repatriate the profits to America.

According to James Sherk, Karen Campbell, and John Ligon of the Center for Data Analysis, adopting these measures increase real gross domestic product by an average of $56 billion a year between 2011 and 2020, reduce the national debt by $305 billion by 2020, and increase job growth by 305,000 a year between 2011 and 2020.

This past June, marking the first anniversary of the Obama Administration's destruction of our nation's bankruptcy code, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels (R) warned: "The nation is not safe from crony capitalism. In the past year we've experienced the nationalization of the student loan industry and the passage of national health-care and financial-services regulation, each of which is rife with new opportunities for government favoritism and preferential handouts to favored corporations like Chrysler." Our economy will never reach its full potential as long as the best way to succeed in business is to succeed in Washington.

Quick Hits:

  • House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R–TX) issued a letter to the Justice Department yesterday informing them that the House will be investigating allegations that the Civil Rights Division has engaged in race-biased enforcement of the National Voter Registration Act.
  • Forty-six Republican House Members and one Democrat joined sponsor Marsha Blackburn's (R–TN) bill that would block the EPA's new global warming regulations.
  • Representative Steve Scalise (R–LA) and 28 other House Republicans introduced legislation to rein in the various "czars" in the Obama Administration.
  • Republican governors are pressing the Administration to make it easier for states to cut Medicaid spending.
  • The Democratic-controlled Illinois General Assembly has reached agreement with Governor Pat Quinn (D) to raise income and corporate taxes to help eliminate a budget deficit of at least $13 billion this year.

Jackpot Winner Admits: I’m a Glenn Beck Fan

"You gonna bleep this out?"

That's how Jim McCullar started out his story of how exactly he went about winning the Mega Millions $190 million jackpot. But what needed to be "bleeped out" wasn't a swear word, it was the name of Glenn Beck.

As Stu pointed out on the blog, McCullar, from Spokane, WA, likes watching the Glenn Beck show on Fox News Channel, and does so "a lot." While telling his winning story, he explained how, on the night he found out he had the winning ticket, he briefly watched Beck's show:

McCullar has an incredible story. Multiple heart attacks have led doctors to pronounce him dead three times. KXLY has more:

Jim McCullar, a retired Boeing Co. worker, bought his ticket at a supermarket in Ephrata in eastern Washington, about 125 miles from Post Falls, Idaho, a suburb of Spokane, Wash., where the other ticket was sold.

The winners had to match five numbers plus the "Mega ball." The numbers were 4, 8, 15, 25 and 47, and 42 as the Mega ball.

The McCullars have played some combination of those numbers for years because they're based on the couple's birthdays. It has worked before: Jim McCullar said he won about $18,000 several years ago playing similar numbers on a keno game in Oregon. [...]

Jim McCullar said he had rough plans to give some donations to charities, though he declined to name which ones. He has already given his notice at the real estate company where he was working.

Failure. Economy Produces Less Jobs than Expected – December Unemployment Rate at 9.4%

Barack Obama is the worst jobs president since the Great Depression and possibly the worst jobs president in US history.

In December the Obama economy once again created less jobs than expected.
We're getting used to this.

The unemployment rate dropped to its lowest level in a year. It's still pathetic but maybe there is hope since Republicans took over the House.
Reuters reported:

The economy created far fewer jobs that expected in December, suggesting the Federal Reserve will complete its asset buying program, but the unemployment rate dropped to its lowest in more than 1-1/2 years.

Non-farm payrolls increased 103,000, the Labor Department said on Friday, below economists' expectations for 175,000. Private hiring rose 113,000, while government employment fell 10,000.

However, overall employment for October and November was revised to show 70,000 more job gains than previously reported. The unemployment rate fell to 9.4 percent, the lowest since May 2009, from 9.8 percent in November.

UPDATE: BB sent in the updated graph that shows where we the unemployment is today compared to where we were told it would be if the Trillion dollar Obama-Pelosi Stimulus was passed.

London Braces for New Islamic Attack

Obama say, "respect it!" Daisy the Khan say, "the era of extremism is ovuh." Geller say, "defeat the bastids."

All that outreach, all that accommodation, all that dhimmitude, and it comes to this. "Terror threat to London stations and airports," by Duncan Gardham in the Telegraph, January 6 (thanks to all who sent this in):

British Transport Police cancelled leave and called in extra officers after intelligence was received that terrorists could be planning attacks.

A security source said there was no "imminent" threat and the overall threat level had not changed but there was activity from one of a "handful" of extremist cells that cause concern at any time, leading to an adjustment in policing levels.

It is understood that "intelligence chatter" suggested that transport hubs in London could be a target.

It was unclear last night whether the terrorists were discussing suicide bomb attacks, or Mumbai-style shootings, or a combination of methods....

Why The Economy Won’t Come Back For Obama

The Media is aflutter these days about the imminent return of the economy.   Of course, it marks a stark contrast to the manner in which they covered the Bush economy.  In the months leading up to the 2008 election, the Media was talking the economy down.  Now they are attempting to talk it up.  No amount of Media optimism, however, will change some basic dynamics which will keep the economy in its weakened state or worse for years to come.  As you go through these reasons, keep in mind that consumer spending makes up, and has for years, approximately 70% of the US economy.

1.  Historically High Unemployment.  The unemployment rate remains historically very high.  History also tells us that unemployment takes longer to recover than other economic indicators.  That certainly applies to our current economic troubles.  Despite Pelosi's claims about how unemployment checks create jobs, the magnitude of our unemployment translates directly into a historically high lack of consumer purchasing power.  That's true for the 9.8% of unemployed Americans and their families – not to mention those affected by the much higher underemployment rate of  17+%  – and those dependent on consumers.  No one expects unemployment to fall rapidly and therefore this will continue to hurt the US economy for years.

2. The Foreclosure/Mortgage Crisis.  The magnitude of the continuing foreclosure/mortgage crisis continues to be grossly under-reported by the press. (Surprise).  Many believe that foreclosures will actually increase in 2011 over the approximately 1.2 million that occurred in 2010.  Combined with the 2009 numbers, that means over 3 million foreclosures in a three year period.  That depresses housing prices and hurts the housing industry overall which, historically, has led the way in past recoveries.  Worse yet, estimates of the number of mortgages "under water,"  (homes whose mortgage is higher than the value of the home) continues to rise – not to mention those homes which have less equity than the costs of sale.

Looking at it another way, the Federal Reserve believes Americans have lost $6 trillion in home equity since 2006.  All of that translates into nervous homeowners with much lower – if not lost – purchasing power.   That won't turn around in time for Obama either given his policies.

3. Rising Gas Prices.

This too is a grossly under reported story.  Gas prices are up over 60% under Obama.  Higher gas prices act like a tax on the American economy that hurts consumers and businesses alike.  Obama's policies (like shutting down gulf oil production resulting in an 11% drop in supply) are certainly to blame and some are predicting gas shortages and $5 dollar a gallon prices by 2012.  That too robs Americans of purchasing power.

4.  A Rising Regulatory Burden. American business is facing more regulations and government mandates virtually every day.  The biggest, of course, is the massive health care mandate.  That same program is resulting in higher consumer costs as well.

5.  A Large Troubled State.  The overall troubles of the national economy can also be directly traced to problems within individual states.  California is the biggest and best/worst example.  Unemployment is over 12.5%.  Underemployment is estimated at over 25%.  California's foreclosure/mortgage crisis is, not surprisingly, much worse than the national average.  How bad? 6 of the 10 worst cities for foreclosures in the country are in California.

Incredibly, Californians have lost $1.7 trillion in equity since the height of the market in 2007.  How bad is that?  It is a number nearly equivalent to California's entire GDP!  In other words, California consumers have lost purchasing power equivalent to an entire year of economic output for the entire state – a state said to be the World's 8th or 9th largest economy.

Then there is the man-made California agriculture depression.  Agriculture used to be 17% of the state's economy.  It is depressed due to government policies that have all but SHUT OFF water to the Central Valley.  Liberal government policies have elevated the needs of a tiny bait fish over farms – dealing a huge blow to farm production.  But that is not all.  Now California is implementing global warming laws that will hurt the employment sector even more not to mentioned threatened tax hikes.

California's economy used to equate to over 16% of the nation's economy.  Presuming it still does, ask yourself:  if 16% of the nation's economy is crippled – who can rightfully expect the overall economy to recover?

Given all of the above – the answer is we cannot.  In July of 2008, on a radio program, I predicted that the national economy would be bad for a minimum of 6 years if Obama was elected.  I am standing by that prediction because government policies continue to hammer our fellow consumers and the economy overall.

Of course, it does not have to be this way.  The key to economic recovery requires less government regulations and taxes and more economic freedom.  The midterms elections were step one in that process.  The Presidential election of 2012 will be step two.

US unemployment rate falls to 9.4% because people gave up looking for work, jobs growth "far below m

Well, the kind of good news is that just over 100,000 jobs were added in December '09. The bad news? It takes a monthly jobs growth of about 100,000 just to keep up with population growth as kids mature into working-age. So the December number for jobs growth is realistically ZERO, but don't look for the establishment MSM to point that out. From the AP via The Detroit News:
The nation's unemployment rate dropped to 9.4 percent last month, its lowest level in 19 months. That was because more people found jobs, but also because some people gave up on their job searches.

The Labor Department said today employers added 103,000 jobs in December, an improvement from November's revised total of 71,000 but far below most analysts' expectations.

Once unemployed workers stop looking for work, the government no longer counts them as unemployed.

Through all of 2010, the nation added 1.1 million jobs, or an average of 94,000 jobs a month.
Or, stated another way, the jobs growth fell short of the 100,000 needed each month just to keep up with population increase and is therefore negative. Can we now officially call the stimulus a failure? It has made the problem worse, not better. Keep in mind that in October of 2006 — just before the Democrats took Congress — unemployment was 4.4%. We have now been above 9.5% for 16 straight months until the December number. Obama promised that 3.5 million NEW private-sector jobs will be created by the $1.2 trillion stimulus bill ($800 billion + interest over 10 years since the US is bankrupt) by 2010. Instead, more than 3 million jobs have been lost. Here is what has been happening with Biden's 3-letter word since last year:

January US jobs lost: 598,000 jobs
February US jobs lost: 706,000 jobs
March US jobs lost: 742,000 jobs
April US jobs lost: 545,000 jobs
May US jobs lost: 345,000 jobs
June US jobs lost: 467,000 jobs
July US jobs lost: 247,000 jobs
August US jobs lost: 216,000 jobs
September US jobs lost: 263,000 jobs
October US jobs lost: 190,000 jobs
November US jobs lost: 11,000 jobs
December US jobs lost: 85,000 jobs
January US jobs lost: 20,000
February US jobs lost: 30,000
March US jobs lost: -162,000
April US jobs lost: -290,000
May US jobs lost: -431,000
June US jobs lost: 125,000
July US jobs lost: 131,000
August US jobs lost: 54,000
September US jobs lost: 95,000
October US jobs lost: -151,000
November US jobs lost: -39,000
December US jobs lost: -103,000

Total US jobs lost under Obama: 3,694,000 jobs
3.7 million fewer jobs to lose, and that's neglecting the corrections that were made to the jobs numbers from last year that showed even bigger losses. Recall that the stimulus package was supposed to stop the unemployment rate at 8%! A crisis could become a calamity? Remember that? Here's how that looks (via Michael's Comments):
Note that the blue lines are the numbers that Obama's team came up with. So the actual unemployment rate is not only worse that what would happen with porkulus, but even worse than was predicted without it. The stimulus bill was and is a fraud perpetrated by Obama on the American people to pay back his union hacks that got him elected. Nothing more, nothing less.
